An evacuee from Hurricane Gustav was arrested in Greenville on Saturday, Aug. 30 and charged with trafficking marijuana, according to Butler County Sheriff Kenny Harden.

Harden said deputies arrested Brad Harris, 37, of D’Iberville, Mississippi, after stopping him for running a stop sign in front of the Butler County Jail. Harden said Harris was driving a 1992 Geo and was going an estimated 35 miles per hour when he ran the stop sign.

Deputy Jason Blue pursued Harris, halting the suspect’s car in front of the Greenville Post Office.

“He had left Mississippi for the storm and had just come into to town to stay with some people here he knew,” said Harden. “Deputy Blue detected the odor of marijuana in the vehicle and a search yielded almost three pounds of the drug.”

Harden said Harris is currently in the Butler County Jail on $30,000 bond.

He is charged with possession of marijuana and trafficking.
