Mary Atchison Rogers

Mary Atchison Rogers, a lifelong resident of Butler County, died on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2008.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 3, 2008 from the chapel of Dunklin and Daniels Funeral Home with the Rev. David A. Atchison officiating and Dunklin And Daniels Funeral Home directing. Interment followed at Magnolia Cemetery.

Mrs. Rogers was preceded in death by her parents, John H. and Callie Duncan Atchison; sisters, Effie A. Strickland, Natalie A. Hughes and brother, James Mack Atchison. She is survived by her son, James &uot;Jimmy&uot; (Georgia) C. Rogers of Greenville; daughter, Carolyn R. (Al) Middleton of Greenville; grandchildren, Melissa M. (Joel) Houghton of Wetumpka, Ben Rogers of Greenville, Susan R. (Gavin) Davis of Greenville; great-grandchildren, Wil, Leah and Sam Houghton of Wetumpka; special children, Cecil Atchison, Bill (Wanda) Atchison of Prattville, Joanne A. (Wayne) Saucer of Titus, Johnnie (Kathy) Atchison of Greenville, and the Rev. David (Angela) Atchison of Satsuma and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Rogers was a charter member of East Greenville Baptist Church. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to one’s favorite charity or to RSI Restoration: First United Methodist Church, 112 Adams Street, Greenville, AL 36037, in memory of Mrs. Rogers.

Horace Fred Martin Sr.

Horace Fred Martin, Sr., age 85, a resident of Camden, died on Tuesday, February 26, 2008. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 26, 2008, at Reaves Chapel Cemetery with Elder Barney McIntosh officiating and Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Alice Capell Martin. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Threadgill Martin; daughter, Beatrice Martin of McMinnville, Oregon; step-daughters, Phyllis Blackwell of Camden, Carolyn Stimpson of Coy, Katrina Wilson of Coy; son, Horace Fred Martin, Jr., of Fitzpatrick; step-son, Phillip Threadgill of Selma; eight grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara Nell Kirchbarr of Camden; brother, Wilburn Martin of Globe, Arizona, and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Martin was a WW II and Korean War veteran. He was also a survivor of the Battle of The Bulge and fought in five major battles during his service. He was a member of the Dale Lodge # 25 of Camden and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Camden.

Betty Jean Free

Betty Jean Free, age 75, a resident of Greenville, died on Tuesday, February 26, 2008. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 28, 2008, from the chapel of Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home. Interment followed at Sunrise Memorial Park. The family received friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home. Ms. Free was preceded in death by her mother, Albie P. Free. She is survived by her sisters, Odessa (Bill) Ballard of Gantt, Marlene Oakes of Montgomery, Juanita (Eddie) Taylor of Augusta, Ga., Elsie (John) Sheffield of Seminole, Roberta (Richard) Courson of Spring Hill, and numerous nieces and nephews. Genie Mae Hudson

Genie Mae Hudson, 71, a resident of Greenville, died Friday, February 22, 2008. Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 22, 2008. Mrs. Hudson was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Cora Lee Lowery; sisters, Louise Waller and Elizabeth Bowman. Mrs. Hudson is survived by her husband, Loble H. Hudson of Greenville; son, Gene Hudson of Greenville; sister, Willie Lee Parker of Mobile, Betty (James) Owens of Greenville; brother, Donald (Angie) Lowery of Georgiana and numerous nieces and nephews. Sandford R. White

Sanford R. &uot;Sandy&uot; White, age 78, a native of Coosa County, Ala., and a longtime resident of Mobile, Ala., died on Wednesday, February 27, 2008, at a local hospital.

He was an active member for the past 35 years with Cottage Hill Baptist Church and was the owner/operator of White Guard & Detective Services.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lora Dean White of Mobile, Ala.; children, Michele (Kenneth) Hester and Debbie Troy; sisters, Sue Temple and Vesta Glover; grandchildren, Jarrod Troy, Kiley Troy, Victoria Hester and Labon Hester.

Visitation was held on Friday, Feb. 29, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2008, at 10 a.m. from Cottage Hill Baptist Church Chapel. Graveside services and interment will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2008, at 2:30 p.m. in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Georgiana, Ala. Visitation will be held at Johnson Funeral Home from 12:30 p.m. until 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Cottage Hill Baptist Church &uot;The Master’s Plan.&uot;

Mobile Radney Funeral Home in Mobile, Ala., was in charge of the arrangements.

James Gerald Brazwell

James Gerald &uot;Jerry&uot; Brazwell, 71, a resident of McKenzie, Ala., died Wednesday, February 27, 2008, in an Evergreen hospital after an extended illness.

He was employed for many years with Modern Homes and Equipment in Mobile, Ala.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2008, from the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Phillip Herring officiating.

Burial will take place in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with Johnson Funeral Home of Georgiana, Ala., directing.

He is survived by his wife, Marie Brazwell of McKenzie; daughter, Teresa Prince of Pensacola, Fla.; son, Lynn Brazwell of Pensacola, Fla.; grandchildren, Michael Brazwell, Matthew Prince, Andrew Prince, Bianca Bradford, and Sandy Thompson.

Visitation was held on Friday, Feb. 29, 2008, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home.

Joyce Lynell Pierce

Joyce Lynell Pierce, 63, a resident of Red Level, died Wednesday, February 27, 2008.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, February 29, 2008, from the Vera Cruz Methodist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery with Johnson Funeral Home of Georgiana directing.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Sabina and Mike Mann of Trussville; son, Rodney Shelton Pierce of Georgiana; father, Madison H. Cook of Red Level; Shelton Pierce of Georgiana; sisters and brothers-in-law, Edna and Durwood Cross of Enterprise, Betty Watson of Brewton, and Jane and Bill Sellers of Red Level; grandsons, Aaron Pierce, Blake Pierce, M.J. Mann, and Matt Mann.
