Roy Junior Gardner

Roy &uot;Doll&uot; Junior Gardner, 81, a resident of Taylor, died Friday, January 11, 2008 at his residence after an extended illness. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, January 14, 2008 at the Antioch West Baptist Church in Greenville with the Rev. Watson Wasden officiating. Interment services will follow in the church cemetery with Robert Byrd of Sunset Memorial Park Funeral Home and Crematory, LCC of Dothan, directing.

Mr. Gardner was born on August 31, 1926 in Butler County to Thomas Rich Gardner and Indy Frances Braden and lived the early years of his life there. He joined the U.S. Army and served for two years in the medical corps and worked in the convenience store business as a zone manager for 20 years prior to his retirement in 1987. He resided in Lake City, Fla. until relocating to Taylor in 2005. He was a member of the Masons and the Church of Christ.

Survivors include his daughters, Judi (John) Gates of Taylor, Lisa (Johnny) Franklin of Huntsville, Charlene Scofield of Virginia, Laura Mason of Huntsville, Amy Byrd of Huntsville; sister, Lala Stinson of Pensacola; former wife and mother of his children, Evelyn Wooten of Huntsville; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
