Leroy Rivers will be remembered at his funeral services held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2008 from Hopewell A.M.E. Zion Church, the Rev. Peggy Cook, officiating.

Burial will follow in the churchyard cemetery with Hudson Funeral Service of Greenville directing. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Annie Rivers; daughter, Betty (Richard) Jackson of Live Oak, Fla.; one sister, Lodee Campbell of Greenville; four grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Willie D. Sims

Willie D. Sims will be remembered at his funeral services held on 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2008 from R.L. Austin Elementary School in Georgiana with Hudson Funeral Services of Greenville directing. He leaves to cherish his memories, a stepfather, Leon Franklin of Georgiana; sister, Patricia (Crochen) Tripp of Mobile; Delorise Sims, Milwaukee, Wisconsin; three brothers, one devoted, Jerry (Melissa) Sims of Georgiana, Willie Edward (Gloria) Sims of Greenville, Lonnie Sims of Milwaukee; two stepsisters, Eva May Sims of Fort Deposit; Ruby Eddins of Greenville, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

James Allen Cherry

James Allen (Jasper) Cherry died January 11, 2008 in Rochester, N.Y. Funeral arrangements were handled by Verbie’s Funeral Chapel, 168 North Palmer Ave., Georgiana, managed by Mr. Karl Bell, a licensed funeral director from Hayneville. Gloria Crosby served as funeral director.

Mr. Cherry was born August 13, 1951 to Annie and Theodore Thomas Cherry. He joined the McKenzie Chapel AME Zion Church at an early age. A member of the 1973 graduating class of Georgiana High, he was loved by all.

He leaves to mourn his passing, a devoted mother, Annie Ruth Cherry; one daughter, Shoneta (Curtis) Henderson; two grandchildren, Dezaria and Tyler; two brothers, Otis (Carol) Cherry, Kenneth (Iranelle) Cherry; two sisters, Rebecca (LaKarl) Seals, Christie Poole; three aunts, Dorothy Foster, Annie Will Poole and Geraldine Poole; a special brother, Larry Mallory; special friends, Cary Cheatham, Eddie Earl Paige Sr., J.C. Anderson and Bobby Ray Kent, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

John Allen Cheatham

John Allen Cheatham died December 20, 2007 at his residence in Georgiana. Funeral services were held on Dec. 28, 2007 from Georgiana High School with the Rev. Samuel Jenkins officiating and Verbie’s Funeral Chapel of Georgiana, Mr. Karl Bell of Hayneville, directing.

Mr. Cheatham was a licensed funeral director who managed and directed Verbie’s Funeral Chapel. Prior to this, he studied at Trenholm State Technical College to be a practical embalmer/funeral director. He worked for Foreman’s Ambulance Service as an EMT and served with Foreman Funeral Home for 40 years. Later he joined Verbie’s Funeral Home where he remained until his death.

Mr. Lorenzo Wright of the Alabama Board of Funeral Directors and Morticians and assistant director of the National Funeral Association was on hand at the funeral service to give comments about Mr. Cheatham’s service to the community as a funeral director.

Verbie Payne stated he was a loyal and supportive person of his profession, loyal to his work and the people he served. He will be truly missed by all who came into contact with him.

He was preceded in death by the late Betty Jean Hartley Cheatham and from his union he leaves two children, Jacqueline (Lindsey) Gandy and Denise (Mark) Cross of Georgiana. Later in life he united in marriage to his loving wife Ester R. Maye Cheatham and from the union two children were born; Terrall (Sylvia Holder) Cheatham of Phoenix, Ariz., and Chitqutee Cheatham of Georgiana; he also left to cherish his memories two sons, Shannon (Loretta) and Michael Bonner of New Mexico; he also helped to raise Anthony (Shameka) Woods of Millbrook; five brothers, Mizell (Barbara) Cheatham, Carey

Lee Cheatham, Joseph Peterson (two deceased brothers, Robert (Ida) Cheatham and Roy (Barbara) Cheatham); six sisters, Annie Laura (Willie) Hasaway, Johnnie Pearl Dawson, Nancy Carol Johnson, Patricia (Henry) Barron, Kay Francis (William) Rice and Mable Jean Jackson; grandchildren, De’Nasia, Mykel, Dedarian, Lexis, Terrall, Jamie, Adrian, Rashad, Tonya, Cassandra, Paul, Jerman, Lindsey Jr., Lil Mark, Areney, Quanisha, Shantell and a special granddaughter whom he raised, De’Shaylia Jacques Cheatham; special friends, Leon Franklin, Samuel Blackmon, Verbie Payne, Helen Poole and Kyle Mobley; one godchild, Amaya Jackson, a host of nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Mary Rogers Atchison

Mary Rogers Atchison, a lifelong resident of Butler County, died on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 3, 2008 from the chapel of Dunklin and Daniels Funeral Home with the Rev. David A. Atchison officiating and Dunklin And Daniels Funeral Home directing. Interment will follow at Magnolia Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2 at Dunklin and Daniels Funeral Home.

Mrs. Rogers was preceded in death by her parents, John H. and Callie Duncan Atchison; sisters, Effie A. Strickland, Natalie A. Hughes and brother, James Mack Atchison. She is survived by her son, James &uot;Jimmy&uot; (Georgia) C. Rogers of Greenville; daughter, Carolyn R. (Al) Middleton of Greenville; grandchildren, Melissa M. (Joel) Houghton of Wetumpka, Ben Rogers of Greenville, Susan R. (Gavin) Davis of Greenville; great-grandchildren, Wil, Leah and Sam Houghton of Wetumpka; special children, Cecil Atchison, Bill (Wanda) Atchison of Prattville, Joanne A. (Wayne) Saucer of Titus, Johnnie (Kathy) Atchison of Greenville, and the Rev. David (Angela) Atchison of Satsuma and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Rogers was a charter member of East Greenville Baptist Church. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to one’s favorite charity or to RSI Restoration: First United Methodist Church, 112 Adams Street, Greenville, AL 36037, in memory of Mrs. Rogers.

William Michael McCluskey

William Michael McCluskey, age 61, a resident of Fort Deposit, died on Thursday, January 31, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m.

Saturday, February 2, 2008 from the chapel of Dunklin & Daniels Funeral Home with the Rev. Eric Jackson officiating and Dunklin & Daniels directing. Interment will follow at Ft. Dale Cemetery in Greenville.
