Kathryn Newton Head, 72, died November 14, 2007 at Capital Regional Medical Center. A memorial service was held Friday, Nov. 16 at 11 a.m. at Thomasville Road Baptist Church.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Damascus Baptist Church Cemetery in Greenville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Thomasville Road Baptist Church Capital Building Fund, 3131 Thomasville Road, Tallahassee, FL 32308. Mrs. Head was born in Butler County on Nov. 21, 1934. She moved with her family to Marathon in the Florida Keys in 1958, and later moved to Tallahassee in 1969.

She received her AS degree from Tallahassee Community College and her BS in ASU. Kathryn taught for four years in Gadsden County Schools, Havana. She later worked in teacher certification, the Department of Education, and completed her professional career with the Department of Business and Professional Regulation on retirement in 1994.

She was a longtime member of Thomasville Road Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, and later served as class secretary for the Caring Couples Sunday School Class.

Kathryn is survived by her husband of 54 years, Charles E. Head,; sons Ed (Terri) of Tallahassee and Forrest (Karen) of Naples; grandchildren, Jordan Head of Tallahassee, Whitney Head of Houston, Texas, Daniel, Benjamin and Jonathan Head of Naples; sister Betty Taylor (Johnny) of Statham, Ga.; brothers, Tom Newton (Carolyn) of Greenville, Douglas Newton (Glenda) of Statham. Eddie Newton (Ann) of Opelika, Jimmy Newton (Janette) of Aberdeen, Miss. and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Dollie Newton.
