John Thomas Bennett, 64, died October 18, 2007. Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 27, 2007 at Roxanna Baptist Church in Rutledge with the Rev. Shirley Burnett Dean officiating and James Herbert Home of Greenville directing. Interment at Roxanna Baptist Churchyard followed with Hebert Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Bennett was born October 30, 1942 to Icess and Sarah F. Bennett in Crenshaw County, Alabama. He was preceded in death by his father, Icess Bennett, sister, Annie R. Page and brother, Bobby R. Bennett.

At an early age, he joined Roxanna Baptist Church in Rutledge and remained a member until he encountered some health problems.

He was married in 1964 to Carolyn Burnett.

He is survived by: a wife, Carolyn Bennett; five sons, John Thomas (Cassandra) Bennett Jr., Kelvin (Darlene) Bennett, Darryll Powell, Robert Earl (Verdell) Bennett, Gerald T. (Charmaine) Bennett; mother, Sarah F. Bennett; three sisters, Janett B. McClain, Vera Muriel (Charlie) Lewis and Mary F. Brand; four brothers, Joe Datie (Boonie) Bennett, Joe L. Bennett, Isaac Bennett, Edward C. Bennett; four aunts, Iberer Wallaace, Fannie Maddox, Betty Whaley and Mary Maddox; two uncles, James Maddox and Horace Maddox; 17 grandchildren; a special niece, Beverly Ann Smith; a special goddaughter, Joan Maturjanitch and a host of other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
