Since football season has started, now comes the time when I go out on a limb and make my predictions about the upcoming football games.

I’ll be predicting both high school and college football games in the days before they happen.

Before I begin, let’s get something straight: I am by no stretch of the imagination about to call Miss Cleo up and ask for a job.

I’m going to look at the matchup and take an educated guess about the winner.

And I’m going to be wrong.

Guaranteed.

I’m just preparing you so you won’t be surprised when it happens.

Hopefully I’ll get more right than I will wrong, but we’ll have to see how my record is at the end of the season.

With that disclaimer out of the way, let’s take a look at this week:

Fort Dale at Hooper

A week after Fort Dale shut down the Edgewood passing attack, the Eagles are facing a similar threat from Hooper.

Since the defense was more than up to the challenge last week, I don’t see why they can’t do the same thing this week.

The injury to Blake Mullins is a concern, but the Eagles have enough depth to overcome that.

I also see the offense reducing last week’s mistakes.

Look for Fort Dale to win big in this one.

Fort Dale: 31

Hooper: 6

J.U. Blacksher at McKenzie

The McKenzie Tigers faced their largest opponent of the season last week when they played 5A Spanish Fort.

The Tigers seemed to be well-conditioned to counter the Toros’ depth, but the varsity didn’t get to play the fourth quarter.

This week’s opponent is J.U. Blacksher and the Tigers have payback on their mind.

McKenzie has shown they can play, but with a run deep into last year’s playoffs, Blacksher has proven they have potential as well.

This is a tough opening test for the Tigers, but I give them the slight edge since the game is at Williams-Vickery Field.

McKenzie: 22

J.U. Blacksher: 20

Greenville at Georgiana

The big game of the week is obviously the Battle for Butler County.

One of the biggest questions is can Georgiana play all four quarters and not give out?

That remains to be seen.

I predict the Tigers will jump out to an early lead, but the Panthers will get their legs under them and make it interesting.

I’m not ruling out an upset, but I think the depth of Greenville will allow them to win the game in the fourth quarter.

If the Panthers stay fresh, who knows what could happen.
