An estimated $230,000 modification to the existing plans for Butler County's new jail should provide more lockdown capabilities, although Sheriff Kenny Harden doesn't yet know what percentage increase that will be.

The Butler County Commission discussed the proposed modification at its workshop on Thursday and approved the change order on Monday.

&#8220I think we would be shortsighted in not pursuing this,” said Commissioner Frank Hickman on Thursday.

Harden had security concerns about the jail when bid totals were announced for the project on April 11. At the time, Harden said the jail as designed would only allow for 13 percent lockdown.

&#8220It's going to be a definite improvement, but I'm not sure how much,” he said. Harden said he would meet with construction managers at a later date to discuss the changes.
