Shymetrica Ball had a chance to send the McKenzie Tigers into double-overtime against Highland Home Thursday night, but he second free throw just missed and the Flying Squadron escaped with the victory, 47-46

With two seconds left and the Tigers down by two, Ball was fouled and sent to the free-throw line for two shots. The first shot bounced off the back of the rim high into the air and fell back through the basket, but the second shot missed going in by inches.

The dramatics of the finals seconds actually began with just over two minutes remaining in the game when Tia Bush drained a three to put the Tigers up by one. Highland Home's Jessica Merriweather answered Bush's three with a lay up to put the Squadron back on top.

With 24 seconds remaining in the game, LaRonica Peterson nailed a three to give the Tigers a two-point lead, but Merriweather answered the call once again with a lay up to send the game into overtime.

Amber Rudolph was the leading scorer for the Tigers with 21 points, followed by Peterson with 19 points and Bush with five points.

Merriweather was the leading scorer for the Flying Squadron with a game-high 22 points, 14 of which came in the final period and overtime, followed by Brandie James with 12 points and Candice Dunn with seven points.

Varsity

Highland Home 74, McKenzie 62

The Highland Hone Flying Squadron broke open a 25-25 second-period tie Thursday night with a flurry of threes and never looked back as they cruised to the 12-point win over the McKenzie Tigers, 74-62.

Although McKenzie started off slow and were forced to call two timeouts in the first minute of the game, the Tigers bounced back and tied the game at 16-16 at the end of the first quarter.

The Flying Squadron held a seven-point lead at the half and had a 12-point lead in the final seconds of the third period, but senior Brandon Kent brought the crowd to its feet on Senior Night with a three pointer at the buzzer to cut the lead to nine.

That would be as close as the Tigers would get.

Three players scored in double digits for the Tigers, led by Kent with 24. Junior Sattrick Rudolph was next with 19 points, followed by Cutis Ball with 10 points.

Senior Jeremy Adams also had five points for the Tigers and Chance Davis had one.

For the Flying Squadron, Alzamar Wallace was the leading scorer with 16 points, followed by Carnell Bryant with 12 points and Deymond Sankey with nine points.

B-team

Highland Home 48, McKenzie 45

In game where the lead changed hands at least a dozen times, the Highland Home Flying Squadron B-team barely escaped with the three-point victory over the McKenzie Tigers Thursday night, 48-45.

Eight players scored for the Tigers, led by Armond Ball with 16 points and Antonio Lett with 11 points.

Terrence Crenshaw, Emmanuel Johnson and Dustin Shell each had four points for the Tigers while Chuck Thompson, Kendrick Ball and Juan Smith had two points apiece.

Cody Graham was the leading scorer for the Flying Squadron with 13 points and Michael Montgomery had 12 points in the win.

Red Level 80, McKenzie 52

The Red Level Tigers took a 17-point advantage over the McKenzie Tigers Tuesday night and held on for the victory, 25-8.

Junior Sattrick Rudolph was the leading scorer for McKenzie with 27 points, followed by Brandon Kent with 13 points, Chris Nix with six points and Jeremy Adams and Elrick Ball with four points apiece.

Pleasant Home 82, McKenzie 43

Sattrick Rudolph scored a team-high 11 points January 26, but it wasn't enough as the Pleasant Home Eagles took an early lead and never looked back en route to an 82-43 win.

Jarvis Womack was next for the Eagles with 10 points, followed by Brandon Kent with eight points, Jeremy Adams with seven points, Elrick Ball with three points and Calvin Henderson and Curtis Ball with two points each.

For Pleasant Home, Dozier was the leading scorer with 21 points and Davis had 12 in the win.

Brantley 80, McKenzie 50

Sattrick Rudolph scored nearly half of McKenzie's points January 23 against Brantley, but the Bulldogs had two players with 25 points each as they cruised to victory, 80-50.

Senior Daniel Ballard was the next leading scorer for the Tigers with 10 points, followed by Elrick Ball and Curtis Ball with six points apiece, Jeremy Adams with three points and Calvin Henderson with two points.

For the Bulldogs, Pitts and Daniels each had 25 points in the win.

Florala 65, McKenzie 25

The McKenzie Tigers scored only six points in the second half January 22 while the Florala Wildcats scored 36 and took the win, 65-25.

Sattrick Rudolph was the leading scorer for the Tigers with eight points, followed by Jeremy Adams with seven points and Calvin Henderson and Curtis Ball with four points apiece.

For the Wildcats, Carson was the leading scorer with a game-high 28 points and Vickers had 17 points in the win.

Girls

McKenzie 52, Red Level 38

Down by five points at the end of the third period, the McKenzie Tigers exploded offensively in the final period Tuesday night and held on for the win over the Red Level Tigers, 52-38.

McKenzie trailed the entire game until the final period.

Amber Rudolph had a game-high 31 points to lead McKenzie and he was followed by LaRonica Peterson with 14 points, Aleshia Stuckey with four points, Tia Bush with two points and Tamiya Owens with one.

For Red Level, Pate was the leading scorer with 17 points and Crawford had 12, including 8-of-13 from the free-throw line.

Pleasant Home 77, McKenzie 36

The Pleasant Home Eagles took an 11-point first-period lead and never looked back January 26 as they took the win over the McKenzie Tigers, 77-36.

LaRonica Peterson had a team-high 11 points to lead the Tigers, followed by Amber Rudolph with 10 points, Aleshia Stuckey with eight points, Shymetrica Ball with four points and Jeleshia Everett with three points.

For the Eagles, Byrd had a team-high 16 points, followed by Lee with 15 points and Poole with nine.

Brantley 64, McKenzie 30

The Brantley Bulldogs held the McKenzie Tigers to an average of seven points a period January 23 and it was enough as the Bulldogs took the victory, 64-30.

Amber Rudolph was the leading scorer for the Tigers with 14 points, LaRonica Peterson had nine points, Tamiya Owens had three points and Tia Bush and Aleshia Stuckey each had two points.

For the Bulldogs, Taronda Randall and Sherry Gulley each had a game-high 19 points and Eisha Person wasn't far behind with 18 points in the win.

Florala 55, McKenzie 28

The Florala Wildcats jumped out to a 33-14 halftime lead and held the McKenzie Tigers to the same scored in the second half to take the win, 55-28.

LaRonica Peterson had a team-high 11 points for the Tigers, followed by Amber Rudolph with 10 points and Aleshia Stuckey with six points.

The Wildcats had four players score in double digits, lead by Ferman with 14 points, Odom with 12 points, Smith with 11 points and Harrison with 13 points.

B-team

Red Level 64, McKenzie 37

Armond Ball had a team-high eight points against the Red Level Tigers Tuesday night, but it wasn't enough as Red Level took the early lead and the win, 64-37.

Antonio Lett and Chuck Thompson were next for McKenzie with six points apiece, followed by Kendrick Ball with three points and Juan Smith, Terrence Crenshaw, Rakeem Ball and Dustin Shell with two points apiece.

For Red Level, Sharp was the leading scorer with 14 points and Williams finished with 10 in the win.

Pleasant Home 55, McKenzie 52

The McKenzie Tigers held the lead at the end of the third period January 26 but some clutch free-throw shooting by the Pleasant Home Eagles was enough to take the close victory, 55-52.

Armond Ball was the leading scorer for the Tigers with 19 points, followed by Emmanuel Johnson with 11 points, Juan Smith with six points, Chuck Thompson and Antonio Lett with five points apiece, Rakeem Ball with three points, Dustin Shell with two points and Kendrick Ball with one.

For the Eagles, Thompson had a team-high 18 points, including 10-of-15 from the free-throw line, and teammate Taylor had 15 points, including 7-of-8 from the free-throw line.

Florala 33, McKenzie 28

The Florala Wildcats broke a 17-17 halftime tie January 22 and held on for the close win over the McKenzie Tigers, 33-28.

Armond Ball had a team-high 10 points, followed by Juan Smith with five points, Emmanuel Johnson with four points, Kendrick Ball with three points and Chuck Thompson and Rakeem Ball with two points each.

For the Wildcats, Johnson was the game's leading scorer with 13 points and Dixon had seven in the win.
