Eagles seeking revenge against Morgan

Published 12:00 am Saturday, October 14, 2006

Both the Greenville Tigers and the Fort Dale Eagles beat ranked teams Friday and, for the first time in a long time, both teams are ranked in the Top 10.

The Tigers obliterated the Valley Rams and showed class in doing so after the Rams' players and coaches got in the faces of the Greenville players and coaches before the game.

The Eagles knocked off their fourth Top 10 opponent of the year against Glenwood while Georgiana fell to Red Level and the No. 1 Brantley Bulldogs downed McKenzie.

Here are this week's picks:

No. 4 Fort Dale vs. Morgan

Fort Dale defeated another Top 10 opponent in Glenwood Friday night, 20-15, and this week the Eagles are seeking revenge against the Morgan Senators.

The Senators got the best of the Eagles twice last season, with the last loss eliminating Fort Dale from the playoffs.

Revenge is a dish best served cold, and with the temperatures predicted to fall this weekend, it could get chilly…

Fort Dale 32, Morgan 20.

McKenzie @ Ariton

Although the score doesn't indicate it, the McKenzie Tigers put up a fight Friday night, but fell short as the No. 1 Brantley Bulldogs emerged victorious, 42-8.

The Tigers opened the game with a successful onside kick but couldn't capitalize on several offensive opportunities.

After three consecutive home games, the Tigers hit the road again at region rival Ariton Friday night.

Two more region wins and the Tigers are in the playoffs…

Ariton 38, McKenzie 28.

Georgiana vs. Flomaton

For the third week in a row, the Georgiana Panthers will take on an opponent at Harmon Field, although the home field has not really been an advantage.

The Panthers were shocked during the homecoming loss to A.L. Johnson and fought hard during Friday night's loss to Red Level, making this week's game against region foe Flomaton a must-win.

With three straight region games ahead, the Panthers must start with a win this week in order to have a chance at making the playoffs…

Georgiana 21, Flomaton 20.

No. 10 Greenville @ Tallassee

When head coach Bryant Vincent arrived in Greenville, he said his goal was to bring back winning to Greenville and to make the playoffs.

And he said he didn't want to wait; he wanted to do it now.

Friday night's win over Valley was a huge step in solidifying both of those goals and a win Friday night over Tallassee would put the Tigers into the playoffs.

The Tigers cannot afford a breakdown Friday night and need a win to keep the momentum rolling…

Greenville 35, Tallassee 22.

Last week: 6-3

Overall: 34-15
