This Thursday, Greenville's newest department store will open at Gateway Plaza.

And it's just in time to take advantage of the first sales tax holiday in the state.

&#8220Yes, it's extremely good timing,” Kathy Gaines, Peebles store manager, said.

Peebles, which moved into the former Moore's location, is kicking things off with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8:45 a.m. tomorrow, August 3.

&#8220We have a very, very busy weekend ahead for all of us, and we are ready for it,” Gaines said.

On Thursday, all Peebles shoppers can enjoy a 20 percent discount storewide with a special Grand Opening Shopping Pass. Friday through Sunday, shoppers can use a second Grand Opening Pass to save 15 percent storewide, in addition to not paying state sales tax on eligible items, including clothing and shoes for school.

And there's more, Gaines said.

The first 150 shoppers, age 16 and older, to arrive at the store on Thursday and Friday will receive free gifts: a canvas tote bag on Thursday and a compact, coordinating umbrella on Friday.

On Saturday and Sunday, customers will receive a Big Bonus Book offering five weeks of bonus coupon savings.

The store, which will offer apparel for the entire family, also carries shoes, accessories, jewelry, and home gifts all under one roof. &#8220We offer popular brand names like Izod, New Balance, Sag Harbor, Koret, Carhart, Dani & Nicole, Studio, Perceptions, South Pole, Reebok, Liz Claiborne, Chaps, Levi, Carter's, Vitamins, Bonnie Bobby, Nike and many more,” Gaines said.

All shoppers who visit the store at any point in the four-day festivities can register to win one of three $100 Peebles gift cards, along with sportswear in misses and junior sizes.

&#8220We are also slated to have WQZX-FM broadcasting live from the store from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday,” Gaines said.

Peebles customers will also have access to a store-branded credit card and a VIP Awards Program. Additionally, the store offers a special discount program for its customers age 50 and over.

Many familiar faces will be found at the new store for those who shopped Moore's in the past.

&#8220We have many of our same employees here,” Gaines, who was also formerly employed with Moore's, said with pride.

&#8220We're glad to have Peebles here and looking forward to a great weekend.”

The Peebles chain, founded more than 110 years ago in Virginia, currently operates more than 170 stores in 23 states. Their parent company is Stage Stores, which operates more than 500 stores in 31 states.
