It should be a &#8220slippin', slidin', bouncin' and bungeein'” good time for area youngsters this Saturday, as May Fest comes to Tiger Stadium, courtesy of the combined efforts of the PTAs of Greenville Elementary and W.O. Parmer Elementary Schools.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the whole family can enjoy a multitude of activities, GES PTA President Mary Ann Hamilton said.

&#8220We are especially excited about all our blow-up activities. We have the ‘Big Bounce,' the ‘Water Slip N' Slide,' a giant 18-foot slide and a bungee run, which I understand is a very ‘hot' activity for the kids right now.”

Also planned is an exciting 56-foot obstacle course with ladders and slides offering &#8220plenty of thrills and spills,” Hamilton said.

&#8220The obstacle course is something children and teens can enjoy – this isn't just for little kids.”

All ages can also enjoy the ever-popular dunking booth with &#8220some of your favorite people as ‘dunkees.'”

Several old-fashioned relays are also planned, including water balloon relays, potato relays, sack races, wheelbarrow races and more.

For those with an artistic bent, Hamilton said plenty of fun arts and crafts activities are also on tap at May Fest.

&#8220We'll be making newspaper hats and decorating them with flowers in honor of May Day. There will be thumbprint art and face painting, too.”

Contests galore are also planned, including a screaming contest, a bubble gum blowing contest and a karaoke contest.

Folks of all ages will be entertained by such performers as Miss Greater Greenville 2006, Kimberly Kirby, Sabrina Reynolds and Betty McQueen and her rhythm band.

With all the fun and games, May Fest goers are likely to work up an appetite and a thirst

– and snow cones, pizza, popsicles and drinks will be available to satisfy those cravings, Hamilton said.

Of course, it wouldn't be a May Fest without May Day kings and queens and a braiding of the May Pole, all part of Saturday's event.

Crowning of the kings and queens is slated for 11 a.m.

Admission is just $2 for adults and $1 for children 18 and under. Children under three are admitted free.

&#8220We hope lots of folks will come out and enjoy all the games, activities, entertainment and food we have to offer this Saturday – and it's all for a great cause,” Hamilton said.

Proceeds from the event will go toward paying off the new air conditioning units in the gym shared by the two schools.
