Group I of the Lilies of the Field Pageant at Butler Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church will sell spaghetti dinners on Saturday, Jan. 7 at the church from noon to 3 p.m. Plates are $4 for pick-up of the dinner and $4.50 if it needs to be delivered. n Bible Study

The Women's Ministry

of First Baptist Church of Greenville invites women of the community to participate in a Bible study written by Beth Moore entitled &#8220Believing God.” The study is broken into three classes. The 10-week study will meet from 9 a.m. Until 11 a.m. On Tuesday mornings, or 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evenings, or Sunday evenings 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the lower auditorium. Cost of the book is $15 each. n Sen. Shelby Visit

U.S. Sen. Richard Shelby will join the residents of Butler County for a county visit on Wednesday, Jan. 11 at 4 p.m. The county visit, which is open to the public, will take place at Greenville City Hall, located at 119 E. Commerce St. in Greenville.

n Benefit Supper

n Troy SBDC Provides Free Counseling

A representative from the Small Business Development Center at Troy University will visit the Greenville Area Chamber of Commerce Thursday, Jan. 26, to provide free counseling.

The counseling is available from 9:30 a.m. until noon. Call 382-3251 or 800-959-0717 to set up an appointment.

Troy University's SBDC provides the counseling services monthly at the chamber's resource center, which is maintained by the Small Business Administration. In addition, a small library of various government publications is maintained at the center. Publications will not be available for distribution; however, forms for ordering the publications will be provided.

n Kindergarten Registration

Mt. Moriah Baptist Church #2 Christian Academy is taking applications for 4-year-old children for our kindergarten program and school readiness program. Children's birthdates will have to be on or before Sept. 1. This is a free program. For more information, please call 563-7062.

n County Commission

The meeting time for the Butler County Commission's regularly scheduled second-Monday meetings has been changed from 10 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Workshops for each regularly scheduled meeting will still be held on the prior Thursday at 6 p.m.

n Optimist Essay Contest

The Butler County Optimist Club is sponsoring the Optimist International Essay Contest beginning Dec. 31. The contest is open to students under age 19. The essay winner has a chance of winning a $5,000 college scholarship. The topic is &#8220I'm unique because.” The essay contest is broken into local club, district and international. n Athletic Club Meeting

The public is invited to participate in the weekly scheduled Greenville High Athletic Club meetings at 6 p.m. each Monday in the high school cafeteria. The public is encouraged to attend and share ideas toward building a championship-level athletic department.

n 21st Century Afterschool Program

The Butler County Board of Education will be offering a 21st Century Afterschool Program for K-8th grade students Monday-Friday until 5 p.m. at W.O. Parmer, Greenville Elementary, and at the Education and Community Center for Greenville Middle School students.

Certified teachers assist with homework and offer learning activities which are fun and educational. Tuition is $25 per month. Registration forms are available at each of the sites.

n School Readiness

Mt. Moriah Baptist Church #2 Christian Academy is taking applications for 6-weeks to 5-year-olds for our kindergarten program and school readiness program. Our hours of operation are 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Family guardians and private students are accepted. For more information, please call 563-7062

n Prayer Breakfast

The Lowndes-Butler County first Wednesday prayer breakfast is held at 8 a.m. on the first Wednesday of each month at Priester's Pecans in Fort Deposit.
