A host of dignitaries - local and state - descended on the Butler Activity and Training Center on Friday afternoon for a ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the center's new dining area.

The majority of those there also came to honor the work of Ada Lee Williams, a Greenville resident who has worked tirelessly to ensure the Butler Activity and Training Center continues to remain a thriving part of the community.

Former Gov. Don Siegelman and Speaker of the House, Rep. Seth Hammett, were in attendance as was Rep. Charles Newton and Miss Alabama, Alexa Jones. The Greenville High School Band, as well as the school's choral group, performed for the crowd and Mayor Dexter McClendon capped off the ceremony with the ribbon cutting for the center's expanded dining room.

Nikita Payne, coordinator for the center, said those who utilize the center have been enjoying the new dining room.

&#8220The old dining room was a small cramped area,” said Payne. &#8220It was big enough for about 30 consumers and eight workers. The new dining area has much more space and everyone had been enjoying it. It's not as cramped and it's a major benefit to us.”

Payne said work started on the new dining room in July and was finished by the end of September.

As for the numerous dignitaries who made the trek to Greenville for the ceremony, the sentiment expressed by Hammett could have very well been expressed by all:

&#8220You don't say no to Ada Lee Williams,” he said.

Williams, during her speech, called the day one of the &#8220greatest of her life.”
