Wednesday wreck claims two lives

A two-vehicle accident that resulted in two fatalities on US Highway 31 Wednesday morning was because one driver fell asleep, according to the Alabama Department of Public Safety.

Jason Bradley Skipper, 29, of Georgiana crossed into the northbound lane in a 1990 Nissan pick-up truck and struck an Evergreen Forest Products trailer truck driven by Joseph Freeman Jr., 48, of Greenville, said a spokesperson with the Alabama State Troopers.

The accident happened at approximately 6:40 a.m., two miles south of Greenville near mile marker 128 and resulted in the closure US 31 for two hours as workers cleared wreckage.

Skipper died instantly in the accident. Reports indicate that Freeman Jr. was thrown through the windshield and died shortly after the arrival of paramedics.
