The city of Greenville received a positive audit, according to Glenn Branum of Branum & Company, P.C.

"This audit is for the fiscal period of October 1, 2003, through September 30, 2004," Branum told the council members at Monday night's meeting. "There is a net increase of $2 to $3 million in assets to the city, and the sales tax revenue increased $1.5 million from the previous year."

"This is probably the best audit I've seen in the last ten years," Greenville Mayor Dexter McLendon said.

Among other business, the council voted to approve a resolution authorizing the application for a Community Development Block Grant.

This grant is provided by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs through the South Central Alabama Development Commission.

If approved, this grant would provide $50,000 in funds, with the city of Greenville possibly committing to a 20 percent local cash match of up to $25,000.

The purpose of the grant is to educate the public and possible future developers of forthcoming economic opportunities in the city.

In addition, the city has been awarded grants for the purpose of constructing industrial access roads at the Hwashin and Hysco industrial sites.

Goodwyn, Mills and Cawood, Inc., is handling the contract for the city for right-of-way appraisals and acquisition services.

The following expenditures were approved by the city council: $1,724.25 to the Greenville Equipment Center for an Ultra-Vac attachment for an Ex-Mark Mower for the Horticulture Department; $1,175 to Greenlynk Technologies for a new computer station and software at the Sherling Lake office; $2,213.90 to the Alabama League of Municipalities for the city's annual dues for September 1, 2005 through Aug. 31, 2006, and $1,402 to Adapco, Inc., for one 55-gallon drum of Malathion for the Public Work's mosquito spraying program.

Mayor McLendon reminded everyone that the Greenville segment of "My Kind of Town" would be aired on ABC on Sunday, August 14, at 8 p.m.

The next City Council meeting will be held at City Hall on Monday, August 22, at 5:30 p.m., to be preceded by a public hearing at 5:15.
