Next week, July 25-28, the congregation of Call To Life Christian Center in Greenville invites local youngsters, ages 4 to 12 to be part of a fun-filled week of music, arts and crafts, snacks and Bible lessons.

It’s all about &uot;Building Godly Character To Be Like Jesus.&uot; The Vacation Bible School will run Monday through Thursday, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. each evening at the church, located at 201 Glendale Ave.

&uot; This is only our second VBS at the church, and we are really excited about this year’s theme. We hope lots of children will come and join us,&uot; Tracy Hendricks of CTL said.

While many churches have their VBS programs in June, CTL decided to hold their VBS later in the summer for a special reason.

&uot;We know kids are getting ready to head back to school, and we want to send them back with something positive, fresh on their minds,&uot; Hendricks said.

A colorful construction barrel puppet, &uot;Darrel the Barrel,&uot; is the mascot for CTL’s VBS, and will be featured in nightly skits during the week.

Classes will rotate between different stations and teachers so students can enjoy all aspects of the VBS experience. The event is being directed by Mary Love Helms, wife of CTL pastor, Jim Helms.

&uot;We have some wonderful teachers who will be on board, who have a lot of first-hand experience working with children.

They are also very knowledgeable in the Word of God,&uot; Hendricks said.

The children will also get to learn about building from an expert.

&uot;We are also fortunate to have a real carpenter, who will be helping our students cut, sand, build and paint special projects during the week,&uot; Hendricks said.

Any teenagers who are interested in being part of the VBS, are welcome to be a part of the &uot;construction project,&uot; she says.

&uot;We will plug them into assisting with our classes, if they would like to come join us,&uot; Hendricks said.
