The Luverne First Baptist Church Fall Festival held Oct. 30 was a great success.

The street was blocked to provide safety for children as they participated in various activities in a carnival-like atmosphere. The east lawn of the church was setup with tables decorated with fall tablecloths, beautiful fall floral arrangements and fall leaf garlands. The entrance glistened with tiny orange colored lights.

The street was lined with colorful orange pumpkins. Activities such as pumpkin decorating, creative face painting and cookie decorating began the fun. Games included spin-the-wheel, go fishing, ring the bottle and much more.

There were several contests held including sack racing, marshmallow stuffing, hula hooping and mummy wrapping.

Mrs. Donnie Burns directed the festival.

As an alternative to traditional Halloween trick or treating, Luverne First Baptist hosted Trunk or Treat on Oct. 31, after the worship service of the &uot;The Purpose Driven Life&uot; study.

Children and youth enjoyed refreshments inside with Children's Director Cathy Bradshaw and Youth Minister Josh Bowen, while adults blocked the street, put finishing touches on their decorated trunks and loaded their trunks with Halloween goodies.

Costumed children and youths went from car to car and filled their goody bags.

Participation by adults in decorating trunks and providing treats was tremendous.

Approximately 100 attended the event.

LaRue Kelsoe, a spokesman for The Woodman of the World, recently announced a community service project the organization is sponsoring.

The group will have a free drawing for a turkey cooker and a 10-pound turkey at 1 p.m. on Nov. 23.

You may register at Shirley’s Barber Shop located on Main Street Brantley, Dixieland Grocery near the Brantley post office, Adams Winn Dixie and Henderson Black & Merrill in Dozier, The Food Depot (Super Foods) and Food Fair in Luverne.

The drawing will be held in front of the Woodman of the World office on main street in Brantley.

Friends and South Luverne Baptist have planned a benefit campstew sale for Nolan Beasley.

You must pre-order your stew, which is $5 a quart just in time for Thanksgiving or to freeze for a rainy day.

The Troy University Arts Council has scheduled a Dallas Brass concert for 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 19 at The Crosby Theatre beginning.

The Dallas Brass combines a brass quintet with a full compliment of drums and percussion, creating a performing entity of extraordinary range from classical masterpieces to Dixieland swing, Broadway, Hollywood, folk and patriotic music.

The performance is much more than a concert; it is a show complete with lighting, staging, witty narration and audience participation.

A Dallas concert is intended for ages 5 to 105.

The WMU of Newbie Baptist Church in Coffee County was guests of Bobby and Becky Welch on Oct. 29. Other guests were Pastor Wayne Webber, James Vaughan and Patrick Leverett.

They enjoyed a tour of the Welch home and music. Then they had a great time of fellowship and were served refreshments.

The Luverne Garden Club has selected Mr. and Mrs. Danny Brown, East First Street to receive the Yard of the Month award for the month of Nov.

This is a very coveted award.

A Benefit Gospel Singing will be held at the Rutledge Community Center at 5 p.m. on Nov. 20. All proceeds will go to Mrs. Verbie Broderway.

Everyone is invited to attend and show your love and support. The singing will feature Lonnie McGough and Becky and The Gospel Sounds.

South Luverne Baptist Church had representatives from Four Corners Ministries to share a video presentation and other interactive presentations at their 6 p.m. service this Sunday.

This World Missions ministry is a non-profit organization whose passion is to assist churches in fulfilling the great commission through short-term mission projects. The leadership team is composed of layperson volunteers from Alabama and Tennessee. Once a team has been established in a church, they decide the best time to go as well as chose the location (Venezuela or Honduras).

South Luverne has registered a volunteer team for the summer of 2005.
