Merchants rally for Main Street

A strong characteristic of downtown businesses in Greenville has always been their ability to stick together. On many occasions downtown businesses have proven more than willing to send customers each other’s way by word of mouth.

On the other hand, they also use other organized methods to help each other along. Main Street has a strong hand in this by organizing their Merchant Meetings. These gatherings give other downtown businesses a chance to learn more about each other so they can tell others.

Also, by having a different business host each time, the other businesses get a better feel for what the businesses offer.

Main Street Director Nancy Idland said the meetings are a great way to keep a positive attitude among downtown businesses.

&uot;These meetings are intended to keep everyone happy and excited about being a business on Main Street and being a business in downtown Greenville,&uot; said Idland. &uot;We are in a situation where we have to work hard for our business in downtown Greenville. That’s what we do.&uot;

Idland said while the meetings are designed for everyone to have a good time there is also time to discuss new strategies to increase the level of downtown shoppers.

&uot;We try to come up with ideas for promoting business and more ways to generate interest in getting people to come to downtown Greenville,&uot; said Idland. &uot;We give different businesses a chance to host each month. This time we will be at Whitney Bank.&uot;

The meeting will take place at noon at Whitney Bank’s Commerce Street location. All businesses within the Main Street area are welcome and encouraged to attend.
