Mr. and Mrs. Charles (Nellie) Baggett of Centerville, Ga. was honored with a belated 50th Wedding Anniversary Celebration on Saturday, August 7,2004. This special event was held in the fellowship hall of their Church at The Second Baptist Church in Warner Robins, Georgia. Those attending from Alabama were Dorothy Baggett and Greta Jordan of Montgomery(formerly of Bradleyton),and Harold Nelson of Honoraville. Also Charles's brother, Jimmy and Betty Baggett of Glenwood spent Saturday night with Charles and Nellie and attended Church with them on Sunday. Jimmy and Betty were thrilled to be introduced to the Governor of Georgia while attending the Sunday morning worship service. Governor Sonny Perdue and his wife Mary attend their home Church, The Second Baptist Church in Warner Robins when they are not in Atlanta. The Baggett's daughter, Susan Godwin, of Macon Georgia submitted a previous article to surprise her parents, because they are avid readers of The Luverne Journal because of their home ties in Crenshaw County. Surprise! Surprise! again Charles and Nellie. Hope you have many more happy years together. This writer and her husband celebrated their 54th anniversary on Monday August 16, 2004.

The Alabama Crenshaw Baptist Woman's Missionary Union executive committee members met for their leadership meeting on Saturday August 14,2004. This Annual Leaders meeting was held in The Community Room at Meadowcrest from 9:00 A.M. until 11:30 A.M. This was a planning meeting for the new Church year. The leaders are real excited about the new year and made plans for the "September Spectacu-lar", which will be hosted by Mt.Zion Baptist Church, on Monday September 20,2004, beginning at 6:00 P.M. The theme for the WMU organization for 2004-2005 will be "Christ Followers." Mrs. Carolyn Campbell , the Assn. Director of Alabama Crenshaw WMU, conducted this leadership meeting and she encourages all members of Baptist Women of WMU and all Baptist Women Ministries to made plans to attend and join together as we follow Christ. Bring a friend and introduce them to the Joy of Missions. Other leaders attending were Nancy Bentley, Twyla Smith, Jewel Killough, Sara McGinty, Lee Ann Rainey and Betty Leverette.

Ms. Cleo Stephens of Meadowcrest Community and her daughter Doris Haag of Montgomery hosted a birthday celebration for a friend, Mr. Mancil Fowler in Ms. Cleo's home. The celebration was held on Friday afternoon, August 6,2004 from 3:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. Several friends helped Mr. Mancil celebrate his 91 years young. Everyone attending sang Happy Birthday to the honoree , then a beautiful decorated birthday cake ice cream, finger foods and punch was served by the hostesses. After the time of fun, food and fellowship Mr. Mancil enjoyed opening several nice birthday gifts.

Citizens of Luverne, it is not to late to help with a Victim Experience Survey sponsored by The Luverne Police Department. The LPD has received a grant through the office of the Attorney General from the United States Dept of Justice office for Victims of Crime, to help provide better services to Victims of Crime in rural areas. The information gathered in this survey is confidential . All Churches are encouraged to help spread the word. The LPD needs your feed back and comments. Please take the time to help with this important issue and send a representative from your church or civic organization to talk to Chief Davis to received more information and pick up survey forms.

A Baby Shower was held on Sunday afternoon at South Luverne Baptist Church on August 15,2004 honoring Mrs. Will (Spring) Tate. The guest were friends and family who registered between 2:30 p.m.-4:p.m. Spring opened many useful gifts. The register table and the food table was very attractively decorated in blue and white. This event was hosted by ladies of SLBC.

Rev. Jerry Flogwood, former Pastor of Rutledge First Baptist Church for over 20 years, was the guest speaker at South Luverne Baptist Church, Sunday Night at the 6:00 p.m. worship service. Rev. Jerry and his wife Linda are moving to Greenville, Alabama. Rev. Hogwood will be available to preach and fill in for Pastors as needed. They will be missed in the Alabama Crenshaw Assn. Everyone wishes them well as they make this change in their Ministry.

Lord, my Faith is no Faith at all if it depends upon whether you perform a miracle for me or for someone I love. And yet I believe that miracles do happen. So I ask you to look with compassion on my prayer, and to grant the desires of my heart. Whether your answer is yes or no, now or later, I trust that you hear me, that you understand my distress, and that you will act with compassion, Amen.

Richburg-Nichols Reunion held Su'iday

The 7th annual reunion of the descendants of Mahlon A. and Josephine Richburg and the descendents of Job A. and Cynthia Nichols met at the Mitchell Center on Sunday, August 15, 2004. These reunions had been held seperately for many years until 1998. The family of Houston H. and Georgia Nichols Richburg were the largest group left and it was decided to combine the two families. Because of the busy time of school beginning and the availability of the Mitchell Center on November-first Sunday, it was voted by the group to hold the next reunion on November 7, 2035.

Present an enjoying the covered dish lunch were Alton an Virginia Richburg, David Richburg of Goshen; Rita R. Moore of Daleville, Michelle and Lauren Campbell of Dothan; Voncile R. Nichols of Luverne; ma R. and James Fuller of Montgomery, Debbie Jones, Lee and Cody Shaffer of Wetumpka; Odessa R. Golden of Montgomery, Rev. Douglas Golden of Andalusia; Merle Richburg of Luverne, Brenda R. Davis of Brantley; Charles and Gladys Sport of Luverne; John Morgan and Dot Nichols of Montgomery; Lif ford Nichols of Luverne, Billy and Donna Nichols of Franklin, TN. Frances Nichols of Luverne was a guest.
