Anyone who has met Jerome Harris knows he wears many hats in Greenville athletics.

Whether its working at his fulltime job as Greenville Parks and Recreation Department’s director or serving as a youth softball coach, offering volunteer assistance to Greenville High School’s athletic department during every sport throughout the school year and serving as the school’s athletic club president for the past six years.

During Monday night’s athletic club meeting, following many rumors that Harris would step down as president, he decided to keep one of those hats as he accepted another term as president.

&uot;I opened the floor up for nominations for another president and everyone wanted me to stay on,&uot; Harris said. &uot;They elected me for another year.&uot;

Although Harris had planned to resign at the meeting, he said it was flattering that club members wanted him to remain president for another term.

&uot;It makes you feel good when people appreciate you enough to have you stay on as president for one more year,&uot; Harris said.

Along with Harris being re-appointed as president, Brian Gibson was named vice president, Karen Owens secretary and Leila Harris treasurer.

&uot;I’m glad to see Jerome stay on because he has always taken care of things we didn’t have to deal with,&uot; Rodney Bush, who has been a member of the club for three years, said. &uot;There are a lot of things that go on behind closed doors such as getting all the vendors together and cleaning the stadium up and he takes charge of those things. There’s a lot more to it than just showing up.&uot;

Harris said his plans for the athletic club haven’t changed. Fundraisers are still a main priority.

&uot;I plan to continue helping raise funds for the athletics at the school,&uot; he said. &uot;Hopefully we can raise at least $40,000. Whatever we raise, we have to basically turn around and spend it, so fundraising is ongoing.

&uot;The athletic club is not just for football, but all the athletics at Greenville High. We have to raise enough money during football season because it’s our biggest fundraiser to support all athletics.&uot;
