Greenville Middle School will host an Open House for parents, students and faculty from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 12 for grades 5,6, 7 and 8.

August 13

Sweet Home Baptist Church in McKenzie will host a ladies get-together based on the Women of Faith Ministry, featuring Linda Blackburn as the keynote speaker. This event will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 13.

A salad meal is included in the program. There is no charge, but a ticket is required for registration. Please call (334) 374-2560 for tickets.

August 14

The Roberts-Brittingham Family Reunion will be held on Saturday, Aug. 14 in Room 1 at the Greenville YMCA in Beeland Park. Bring a covered dish and come prepared to help with a family recipe collection. For more information call 335-5192.

Reid State Technical College will host a gospel music night Saturday, Aug. 14, at 6 p.m. Featured artists will be the Good News Quartet, Dyess Family and Robert Williamson.

The regular Saturday night singing will be held at the Rhodes Chapel Methodist Church, Aug. 14, beginning at 7 p.m.

A benefit auction and gospel singing will be held at 6 p.m.Saturday, Aug.14,

August 15

Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Georgiana will celebrate its 116th homecoming on Sunday, Aug. 15. Services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Dr. Henry Lyon III, retired from the State Board of Missions, will bring the message. Lunch will follow in the fellowship hall. There will be no Sunday school or evening services.

August 16

The Greenville Advocate will hold a political forum for the Greenville municipal candidates at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 16 at the Greenville High School auditorium.

Candidates interested in participating should call Jay Thomas at 383-9302, ext 136 to register.

There is no cost to the candidates.

August 19

The Butler County Board of Education will hold a budget hearing Thursday, Aug. 19, at 7 p.m. in the central office.

The Burt Family reunion will be held at Mount Carmel Primitive Baptist Church beginning at 11 a.m., Aug. 19.

August 22

The Georgiana First United Methodist Church will celebrate the 100th birthday of its oldest member, Mrs. Minnie Norrell, at the 11 a.m. service on Sunday, Aug. 22. There will be a covered dish lunch following the service. Family and friends are invited to help celebrate her life.

August 28

A gospel singing will be held at Sweethome Baptist church in McKenzie beginning at 6 p.m. Aug. 28. Featured singers will be The Hendersons from Milton, Fla., Higher Ground from Brewton and Carl Tillery and the Sweethome Singers.

Ongoing Announcements

The child care program at Greenville High School in the Career Tech Department is accepting applicants for the 2004-05 year. Three and four-year-olds are welcomed. Academics, play and social skills are stressed as children are taught lessons based on a different theme each week. Two meals and a snack are provided each day.
