The Butler County Commision held their monthly workshop to preview the issues they will act on at Monday’s meeting.

One of the problems the commission has dealt with in past weeks were the problems with Rocky Road.

Work has been done to correct the problems, but because it is a low-lying area it is hard to keep proper drainage.

Mary Bellamy, a lifelong resident of Rocky Road, stood before the commission to ask for help.

&uot;Work has been done on the road and we appreciate what was done,&uot; said Bellamy. &uot;But we still need more work.&uot;

The commission viewed a video of the conditions on the road filmed by County Engineer Dennis McCall and John Mark Davis.

McCall acknowledged the road needed attention but said like many other roads in need of repair, funding was a problem.

&uot;The problem with this project is the expense,&uot; said McCall. &uot;We did a considerable amount of work in there last year, but it is a low lying area.&uot;

McCall said materials were a huge expense for such projects.

He said despite the problem with funding he and the commission always try to do whatever they can to help the citizens.

Unfortunately, in rural counties it is very difficult to get to every road, he said. Since many roads are not paved, repairs can be very costly and temporary.

On a positive note, McCall said the road was a good case for a state grant.

&uot;It is a good candidate for a CDBG grant,&uot; said McCall. &uot;It would be a good if we could tie it to a low cost project.&uot;

The commission will likely try to work an agreement with the City of Georgiana on the project.

The commission also heard Robert Bradley’s request for assistance for PPPSC. This is an organization to help place people of the community in better jobs and generally improve their lives.

&uot;Our mission is to make life better for people,&uot; said Bradley. &uot;Our goal and objective is to create an atmosphere for citizens to channel their energy.&uot;

The program offers tutoring and teaching to channel people toward the job market.
