The Greenville Area Jaycees will sponsor their 5th Annual Kids Classic golf tournament on Saturday, July 24, beginning with a 9 a.m. shotgun start at Cambrian Ridge Golf Course in Greenville. Prizes include gift certificates for Net 1st-3rd; win a new car with a Hole-In-One, courtesy of Norman-Blackmon Motors (hole to be determined); Longest Drive and Hole-In-One contests. This is a three-person scramble tournament. Entry fee is $75 per player. Awards presentation and dinner will follow the tournament at Sherling Lake Pavillion. Gospel singing

A gospel singing will be held on Saturday, July 24, at First Freewill Baptist Church of Dozier, featuring Becky Welch and the Gospel Sound, beginning at 7 p.m., with supper starting at 6 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

Hunters' Appreciation Day

The Crenshaw County Chamber of Commerce will sponsor its 3rd Annual Hunters' Appreciation Day on Saturday, September 4, at the Rutledge Town Hall. Professional hunters and fishermen will provide entertainment and instruction. Area merchants and craftsmen will display outdoor gear. Limited covered booth spaces are available. King family to hold reunion

The King family will hold their annual reunion at the Horn-King shelter in Glenwood on July 25. All family and friends are invited to attend. For further information, contact Tommie King, at 335-3526.

LHR sponsors blood drive

One out of every three people will need donated blood in their lifetime. The only source of human blood is from volunteer blood donors in the community. On Friday, July 30, Luverne Health and Rehab will hold a blood drive from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Blood donors must be 17-years-old, weigh 103-lbs. or more, and show a photo I.D. at the time of donation. Anyone who meets the requirements and is in relatively good health can be a blood donor.

Mayors' Prayer Breakfast

Monthly Mayors’ Prayer Breakfast meets Monday, August 2, at 7-7:45 a.m. at the John D. Harrison Cultural Center in downtown Luverne. A light continental breakfast is served. People of all ages are encouraged to attend and pray for county and city officials, pastors and churches.

OCAP meeting

A community meeting will be held at the Operation Community Action Program (OCAP) office on Monday, July 26, beginning at 4 p.m. The purpose of the meeting is to assist OCAP in prioritizing the needs of citizens and the community that will in turn help OCAP with the services it provides. Patterson reunion to be held

The descendents of David Henry Patterson and Mary Ola Williams Patterson will have their annual reunion at New Harmony Baptist Church, July 25, at noon. Everyone is invited to attend church services beginning at 11 a.m. and to stay for lunch immediately after church.

Please bring a covered dish for lunch and any pictures or articles to share with the family.

Women's meeting

The Repairers of the Breach Outreach Ministries, located on U.S. Highway 331, 3-1/2 miles north of Luverne, will hold its meeting on Saturday, July 24, beginning at 2 p.m. Pastor Patricia Beck will be the speaker for the day. Her message will be "Broken Wing" for the broken, abused, misused, abandoned and left out women. If you are that person, or if you know someone like that, please come and let the Holy Spirit minister to you. Open for mature persons, ages 13 and up.

Small business counseling session planned in Greenville

A representative from the Small Business Development Center at Troy University will visit the Greenville Area Chamber of Commerce Thursday, July 22 to provide free counseling. The counseling is available from 9:30 a.m. until noon. Call 382-3251 or 800-959-0717 to set up an appointment. Troy University's SBDC provides the counseling services monthly at the chamber's resource center, which is maintained by the Small Business Administration. In addition, a small library of various government publications is maintained at the center. Publications will not be available for distribution, however, forms for ordering the publications will be provided.

LBWCC 2004 Summer Graduation
