The Luverne Police Department has received a grant through the Office of the Attorney General from The United States Department of Justice, Offices for Victims of Crime, to help provide better services of crime in rural areas.

Chief Bob Davis of the Luverne Police Department states, &uot;To insure that the best possible services are created in our area, we need feed back and comments from as many people as possible.&uot;

If you or anyone you know has been a victim of crime of any nature, please contact the LPD . Chief Davis will provide you with a Victim Experience Survey form that is kept in strict confidence. The victim does not have to sign his or her name. A stamped envelope, addressed to the LPD is attached to the survey form. Also you receive a resource list of available services for crime victims. All citizens are encouraged to take the survey and help stop crime in our area. Some of the crimes committed are domestic violence, child abuse/neglect, armed robbery, elder abuse, hate crime, burglary, rape, work place violence, property crimes, fraud and many others.

All churches are ask to send a representative to the LPD and pick up survey forms, to help get the word out. This would be a great Mission Project for your church. For more information call Chief Davis at (334-335-3334)

The Crenshaw RFL for 2004 grand total, with co-operate sponsors, was $64,175.03. The teams for 2004 were Annie’s Restaurant/Luverne Methodist Church ($3,989.45), Chicken Shack ($2,143.00), County One Stop ($1,171.00), Crenshaw County Hospital ($1,516.75),

Crenshaw County Post Offices ($2,238.20), Danielsville Baptist Church ($2.673.08), First Baptist Church ($2,941.00), Food Fair ($215.00), Hick’s ($3,120.00), Highland Home School ($4,311.20), Luverne Church of Christ ($2,416.53), Luverne Health and Rehab. ($3,584.13), Luverne High Elementary School ($8,702.00), Mt.Zion Baptist Church ($4,354.01), Petrey Novelty ($1,540.00) and South Luverne Baptist Church ($10,292.16).

Praise Report….The Alabama-Crenshaw WMU & Men’s Ministries held their Annual Joint Meeting on July 17. Spring Hill South Baptist Church hosted this special event. Pastor Andy Till welcomed everyone and gave the blessing for the meal that was served at 6.p.m.

The co- host churches were Joquin Baptist, Brantley Baptist, and Luverne First Baptist. Over 85 were in attendance enjoying the food and fellowship. After the meal the program began at 7.p.m. Mrs. Carolyn Campbell (Associational WMU director) made several announcements and ask for a special prayer for Jody and Nancy Bentley (Assn. Directors) as they move their son Joey to Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Texas this week.

Also remember to pray for the University of Mobile Mission Trip to Norway, as Joey Bentley leads the Mission Team from U.M. from July 23 until Aug.3. Special music was given by

Joyce Langford, Annette Chandler and Jerry Hudson. Mrs. Campbell introduced the guest speakers Dr. William (Pete) & Pat Dunn who were appointed as missionaries in May of 1968. Pete’s assignment was Electronic Media Promotion and Pat’s was Church and Home Ministries. The Dunn’s touched the heart strings of everyone present as they gave first hand experiences of they life as missionaries. They pleaded with the churches not to give up.

Please continue to support God’s Great Commission. The Dunn’s retired in 2001. The theme for 2003-2004 WMU was &uot;My Part In God’s Plan!&uot;

Baptist women in WMU help others discover their part in God’s plan through the Joy of Missions with (1) Pray for and give to Missions,(2) Do Missions, (3) Learn about Missions, (4) Develop spiritually toward a Missions Lifestyle,(5) Participate in the work of the Church and Denomination.

The annual Men’s Promise Keepers Trip will be held in Memphis, Tenn. The buses will depart from SLBC for the PK conference this Friday morning at 6 a.m.

SLBC Vacation Bible School Graduation was held Sunday night at 6 p.m The average attendance for the week was 95 with 108 on Tuesday night. Ms. Doris Rogers, VBS director and her staff of VBS workers helped make this a great week of VBS.

Pastor Mike Green and congregation of SLBC, extends a special invitation to join with them on Wednesday night July 28 at 7 p.m. They will have special guest speakers Shmuel and Pamela Suran from Jerusalem, Israel. Everyone will be welcome. Bring a friend. The Suran’s will be sharing about their ministry in Israel for the past 30 years.
