Greenville Dixie Ponytail All-Stars win District 6 Sub 1 championship

Greenville’s future in the Dixie Softball District 6 Sub 1 Ponytails softball tournament didn’t look good Monday night.

The All-Stars were forced to forfeit a 9-4 lead in the top of the fifth to Luverne after a substitution protest Monday night. Following a come-from-behind win over Troy Tuesday night, Greenville outscored Luverne 40-1 Wednesday night to claim the tournament title.

Nicole Norton pitched a no-hitter and struck out nine batters, and slapped a triple, single, drove in six runs and scored four runs to lead Greenville to a 21-0 win over Luverne in the final game of the tournament

Anna Nelson also finished the evening with six RBI and scored once in the winning effort. Lori Fail and Lauren Christ each scored four runs and drove in one. Abbey Martin also scored four runs.

Greenville 19

Luverne 0

Erin Taylor ripped a double, hit a single, drove in five runs and scored three runs to lead Greenville’s Ponytail All-Stars to a huge 19-0 shutout win over Luverne Wednesday night.

Ann Blake Langford also had a big night at the plate as she finished with two singles and three RBI. Marvia Scott finished with a triple and three RBI, while Jessie Langford and Abbey Martin drove in two runs each.

Nicole Norton chipped in with a one-run triple and Lauren Christ drove in one run on a sacrifice fly.

Lacey Jones and Nicole Quinn led Luverne with one single each.

Greenville 10

Troy 5

Troy led Greenville’s Ponytail All-Stars 5-4 heading into the final inning of play Tuesday night.

Greenville rallied together to score six runs in the top of the sixth and hold Troy in the bottom of the inning and claim a 10-5 comeback win.

Lauren Christ, Nicole Norton, Erin Taylor and Marvia Scott each drove in one run to lead Greenville’s offense.

Shelby Broadway led Troy with a two-run single. Shera Upshaw added a double and scored two runs.

Luverne 20

Brantley 15

Luverne came out on top in a slugfest with Brantley Tuesday night 20-15 to remain in the winner’s bracket and play for the tournament title.

Jordan Jones led Luverne with two singles, three RBI and four runs scored. Taylor Wright chipped in with two triples, a double and three RBI.

Nicole Quinn added a one-run double for Luverne and Jelicia Willis drove in one run.

Hillary Hudson led Brantley with a three-run triple. Eisha Person and Amber Hall drove in one run each.
