A recent search warrant executed in the Town of Rutledge resulted in the seizure of nearly four ounces of marijuana, and the arrest of a suspect. The Second Judicial Circuit Drug Task Force also seized two handguns and a 1982 Cadillac Fleetwood.

"In cooperation with the Metro Narcotics Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, located in West Monroe, La., we were able to obtain a search warrant for a residence at 123 Cherokee House Rd.," said DTF Agent David Sankey. "It was the residence of Darrell LaShawn Lowery, a 30-year-old black male."

Sankey said the search warrant was fruitful.

"We located three bags of marijuana, weighing nearly four ounces, in the trunk of a 1982 Cadillac," he said. "We also located two handguns - a Taurus .357 magnum revolver and a .380 cal. Talon semi-automatic pistol."

Sankey said as a result of the findings of the search, a warrant was signed against Lowery charging him with unlawful possession of marijuana, first degree.

"Lowery was taken to the Crenshaw County Detention Facility, where he was booked on the charge, and the case remains under investigation," Sankey said.

Sankey said his agency appreciated the help from the federal agency.

"We worked on this case as a joint-effort with the FBI," he said. "We appreciate their assistance, and will continue to work this case seeking other charges."
