Butler County’s sixth homicide, and Greenville’s first of 2004 occurred Wednesday night at Purdue Village off Purdue Place in Greenville.

According to Greenville Police Chief Lonzo Ingram officers responded at 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, June 23 to 475 Perdue Place. When they arrived they found Brandon Boggan, a 22-year-old black male, lying on his back in the doorway of apartment 475.

Officers observed that he was bleeding from an apparent gunshot wound to the back.

Greenville Fire Department paramedics responded and transported Boggan to L.V. Stabler Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

As of press time, the GPD, District Attorney John Andrews nor the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences has released any more information.

On Thursday morning, Boggan’s girlfriend, Nykeiliya Jackson and a neighbor were scrubbing up the bloodstain in front of her apartment.

She and Boggan had dated for eight years and have one child and another on the way.

She told the Greenville Advocate that she saw nothing, just heard the shots.

&uot;I didn’t see nothing, I just heard the shots,&uot; Jackson said.

&uot;I came outside and he was laying there. That’s when I called 911.&uot;

Neighbors around the apartment said they believed that three men were involved in the shooting and they said they heard the shots at approximately 11:50 p.m.

Tiffany Savage said she also heard the shots, but that Boggan didn’t make it inside the door.

Jackson said she didn’t believe the police had any leads and believes her boyfriend was ambushed.

&uot;I guess they were waiting on him in the woods,&uot; Jackson explained. &uot;I heard them run back through the woods. I think I heard four shots. The first shot was real loud. The other shots started fading away like they were running backwards.&uot;

Jackson said she didn’t know who would want to kill Boggan and that she was unaware of any problems he might have been having.

&uot;He didn’t say that he had a beef with anybody,&uot; she said. &uot;If he did, he didn’t tell me about it.&uot;

Hudson Funeral Home will direct Boggan’s services and will release more details at a later time.

Ingram said the investigation would continue.

This brings the total number of homicides to six for the entire county.
