McKenzie High School’s football field will have a new name when fall rolls around.

The Butler County Board of Education voted Thursday night to approve the changing of the name to Williams-Vickery Field as requested by the McKenzie Quarterback Club in honor of C.P. Williams and Dwight Vickery.

McKenzie Principal Randy Williams felt that both men were more than worthy of having their names placed on the field.

&uot;Mr. Williams was a long time educator at McKenzie,&uot; said Williams. &uot;He was there around 40 years. He has passed on now, but I know his family would be proud.&uot;

Williams said that the field’s other namesake was also a very special person.

&uot;Mr. Vickery has served as a principal and an agriculture teacher and he is still with us,&uot; said Williams. &uot;He has been there for about 35 years and was very emotional when we told him. These people are well deserving of this honor and we are very proud of them and glad to do this.&uot;

The board also discussed bringing in a new face. The employment of Mark Anderson was approved for the central office as a bookkeeper.

The board was also sad to report the retirement of six more employees. Their retirements brought the total for the Butler County school system to 19 for the year.

Retiring teachers were:

n Judy Burkett, elementary teacher, Greenville Elementary School.

n Charles K. Brodgen, Bus Driver, Transportation Department.

n Peggy Horn, Physical Education Teacher, Greenville High School.

n Barbara Rayborn, Bus Driver, Transportation Department.

n Sammie Hamilton, Bus Driver, transportation Department.

n Barbara Merrit, Bus Driver, Transportation Department.

Superintendent Dr. Mike Reed announced that the board would have a gathering to recognize all of the retiring employees prior to the June 17 meeting.

&uot;We would like to see everyone come out for that,&uot; said Reed. &uot;We just want to do something to recognize all of them.&uot;

Other items approved at the meeting were:

n Approval of Goodling Brothers bid for $47, 900 for a walk in cooler ($17,500) and walk in freezer ($30,400).

n Permission to advertise for bids for gasoline for school buses, propane gas and pest control services.

n Permission to approve the Superintendent’s bond.

The board will hold its next meeting on June 17 at 7 p.m.
