Addie Traweek, a lifelong resident of Butler County, passed away Friday afternoon at the Georgiana Nursing Home.

She was 104.

According to her pastor, the Rev. Allen Stephenson, Traweek, may very well have been he oldest living resident in the county.

&uot;Everyone knew her as ‘Babe,’&uot; he said. Friday afternoon.

&uot;She was just a grand lady to the end.&uot;

Gertha Sowell, a resident of Georgiana, and Traweek’s youngest sister, said she would miss her sister, but knows she is in a better place.

Sowell said Traweek owned a seamstress shop in the downtown area many years ago before closing it.

She then began working in Montgomery for the Singer Sewing Company.

&uot;I can say one thing about Babe', and that is that she was good all of her life,&uot; Sowell said. &uot;She has been a mighty good person.&uot;

The sisters were two of 10 children born to Robert and Martha Traweek.

&uot;There were 10 of us, and Babe was the third oldest and I was the youngest of the family,&uot; she said.

&uot;It is hard to believe that they are all gone, and it’s just me now.&uot;

Sowell said her sister lived quietly in her home until she was 100 and then moved to the nursing home.

She maintained her good spirits until the end.

&uot;I really hated to see her leave me, but I know that she is better off in a better place,&uot; she said.

&uot;We have to remember that death comes to all of us.&uot;

In her 104 years, Traweek saw the horse and buggy give way to the automobile.

She saw man walk on the moon and airplanes fly.

There were two world wars fought in her lifetime and a number of conflicts.

Sowell said the funeral service will be held at Johnson Funeral Home at 2 p.m. on Sunday and the interment will follow in Oak Wood Cemetery with Johnson directing.
