That is where it quit being a GPD problem and became a Butler County Sheriff’s Office problem.

According to Sheriff Diane Harris, Jones was brought to the jail at approximately 6 p.m. Friday.

Before they could process him in, a medical emergency required that correction officers call for paramedics.

&uot;When the paramedics arrived, they were coming and going through the double gates,&uot; Harris said.

&uot;Jones was sitting there waiting and when he saw the gates were open, he saw his chance to escape.&uot;

Harris and her deputies were at work investigating the Doyle Hudson homicide and were forced to stop that to return to the city to search for Jones.

The BCSO, the GPD, the Sheriff’s Auxiliary began searching the area around the jail. GPD

patrol units, deputies and sheriff's auxilary members staked out the the perimeter around the jail.

Roadblocks were set up all along Thames Street as far as the Lurleen B. Wallace Community College campus.

Harris called for the Holman Prison K-9 unit to help search for the escapee.

"By the time the dogs arrived, I was on my way back to the jail with Jones," she said.

"We found him hiding in a breezeway at Bent Creek Apartments on Perdue Place."

&uot;This was a good job again of our departments working together,&uot; she said.

&uot;We appreciate the information that helped both the Greenville Police Department and BCSO find the escapee.&uot;

Harris said she was charging Jones with escape second in addition to the GPD charge of possession.

This is the second escape at the jail in six months.

Both times the inmates were recaptured within hours of the escape.
