My mother-in-law has been through a lot this past week or so. She had to endure two procedures: the replacement of a heart valve at the beginning of the week and the insertion of a pacemaker at the end of the week.

She has always been a woman with a good heart – in the emotional and spiritual sense of the word, at least.

‘Miss’ Pearlie is gentle, tender hearted and kind, and, as the plaque I once gave her said, &uot;there’s a special place in heaven for the mother of four boys.&uot;

I know those four boys fairly well – and take it from me, they have earned her more than a few stars in her heavenly crown.

Her physical heart has been failing her for a while and the operations were necessary to get it back on track. I wish her all the best as she continues to recuperate in Baptist South. I am glad all her boys were able to be on hand for the surgeries. They truly have a mom whose value is worth far more than precious jewels.

I had a wonderful time at the Greenville Area Newcomers and Neighbors Club last week.

The presentation on Korean culture orchestrated by member Linda Horn was so informative and enjoyable. All the Korean ladies did a fine job preparing the traditional dishes of their country – and we got to practice a few phrases in Korean, too.

I would like to encourage those who are not involved in the GNNC to consider getting involved. The club officers have many great ideas for upcoming activities and Trina and company have worked hard to get this off the ground. And speaking of Trina, she and the board of the new Miss Greater Greenville Scholarship Program have been working overtime to get ready for this weekend’s event at the GHS auditorium. There is a good chance you will see the next Miss Alabama among the 18 contestants taking the stagge. Saturday night.

Last, but not least, I understand we have another visit upcoming from Notre Dame Professor Al DeFrees and some of his top-notch architectural students. They have completed more drawings and will be presenting them to the city. Details on this will be forthcoming.
