Be prepared for severe weather

Alabama has one of the most active weather regions in the world.

Each year several severe weather episodes strike our state, some with deadly results.

Technology such as Doppler weather radar and more effective communication such as the Emergency Alert System and the Internet have greatly improved the ability to provide early warning to Alabama residents. Powerful technology and early warning cannot save lives unless people are prepared, stay informed, and know how to react in severe weather.

That’s what next week is all about – time to learn, time to review, time to get ready! With Alabama in such an active weather region, it is not if we will have more devastating tornadoes, it’s simply when.

So when you hear about severe weather drills, don't scoff, but rather participate.
