At its June 9 bimonthly meeting, the Greenville City Council approved payments to Joe Hudson Collision Center and Hayne’s Electronics for repairs on the two cars involved in April shootout with Ronald Shields on Highway 31.

The cars, Nos. 62 and 60, sustained almost $10,000 in damages, requiring body work, re-striping and replacement of the light bars on both vehicles.

The police department’s insurance covered the cost of the repairs, minus the deductible.

The city also approved the payment of a $7,809.75 bill for prisoner Marie Martin for hospitalization and medical treatment from May 19 to May 21 at Stabler Hospital.

Martin complained of stomach pains and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Fire Chief Mike Phillips requested payment of $1,500 to the city of Dothan for training programs for three firemen. It was approved.

Council members also approved payment of $1,715 to ADAPCO for a 55-gallon drum of malathion for the street department’s mosquito control program.

Rusty Edwards reported on several weed and debris violations that are scheduled to be cleaned up by the city, since the owners of the properties failed to respond to notices from the city.

Scheduled for cleanup are:

o Herbert Watts’ lot adjacent to 163 Perdue Street.

o Edgar Hammons’ lot adjacent to 609 South Stree.

o Sarah Thomas’ lot across from 213 Washington Street (the Mt. Olive Lodge).

o Jimmy Lee’s and Margaret Powell’s lot at 610 South Street.

o Alfred Lee Randolph Sr.’s and Annie Jewel Stone Randolph’s lot at the corner of Church and Parmer streets.

o Ida Mae Mallory’s and Arbie Hayes’ lot adjacent to 814 Oak Street.

o Lillian Payne’s lot on Parmer Street across from Butler Chapel AME Zion Church.

o Lozene Blue Harris’ lot across from 161 West Field Street.

o Daisy Williams’ corner lot at Oglesby and Parmer streets.

o Clarice Rowe’s lot next to 509 Oglesby Street.
