Day camp at the Greenville YMCA recently kicked off, and Executive Director Amanda Phillips showed off some of the children’s activities the camp has planned for the summer.

Last week, the camp’s theme was &uot;Follow the Yellow Brick Road,&uot; and featured activities, such as making Wizard of Oz costumes, painting and arts and crafts activities and watching the movie, &uot;Wizard of Oz.&uot;

The activities included ages 5 through 13 years.

The classes are supervised by Assistant Day Camp Director Brennetta Averett, Latasha Kelley and Amanda Black.

Costumes were made and worn during the Friday festivities by several children.

The Tin Man was Sydni Boutwell, the Lion was Brian Smith and Dorothy was Molly Boutwell, who was accompanied by her faithful friend, Toto – a stuffed animal nestled in a basket.

&uot;We think these themed programs create excitement in our camps,&uot; Phillips said.

&uot;The children really enjoy the activities and the ability to create things.&uot;

This week’s theme at the YMCA Day Camp will be &uot;Holidays.&uot;

&uot;We will have activities relating to a different holiday each day,&uot; Phillips said. &uot;We will feature Thanksgiving, Easter, Valentine’s Day, Fall Festival and Christmas. I will put up a tree on Friday for the Christmas activities. It’s going to be a lot of fun.&uot;
