Wal-Mart presented a $1,500 Safe Neighborhoods Grant to Greenville Police Chief Lonzo Ingram on Thursday.

The grant will be used to pay the final amount owed for the police department's Law Enforcement Officers Memorial that will be placed in front of City Hall during a dedication ceremony on May 15 at 2 p.m.

&uot;This is a tremendous gesture on the part of Wal-Mart and Greenville store manager Joe Massanelli,&uot; Ingram said. &uot;We are grateful to them for allowing us to close out the debt on the memorial.&uot;

&uot;We are glad to contribute to this cause,&uot; Massanelli said. &uot;The police officers offer a great deal to the community and this memorial is a great way to remember their sacrifice.&uot;

The memorial ceremony will include guest speaker John Wilson, Montgomery's Chief of Police.

The memorial will be dedicated to Greenville's fallen officers n Jim Herring and Gary Heath, both of whom died in the line of duty.

&uot;We are fortunate that only two officers have been killed in Greenville's law enforcement history,&uot; Ingram said. &uot;We can appreciate that fact all the more considering the recent events where several law enforcement officials narrowly escaped serious harm and possible death. We hope the memorial will remind everyone of the dedication of our police force.&uot;
