Jay Johnson pitched a gem of a ballgame leading the Cardinals to their second straight victory with a 7-4 win over the Athletics in Dixie Minor play. Johnson also led the Cards on the base pads with a double and a homerun and also reached after being intentionally walked in the fourth inning.

The Cardinals hit the board first posting three runs in the bottom of the first after Brandon Smith tripled followed by doubles by Ryan Smith and Johnson. The Redbirds added two more runs in the third after Brandon Smith reached on a walk and Ryan Smith hit his second triple of the night. Johnson was then walked and came home on a Brian Smith ground out.

The A's got on the board in the fifth inning, plating two runners and then added two more in the sixth when Moody Raymond singled and Jeremy McGinty and Chance Williams walked. Calvin McDonald then doubled, scoring Moody and McGinty. But Johnson settled down, striking out the next A's batter and getting another to hit into a ground out. With the win the Cardinals go 2-0, while the A's drop to 1-1.

Cubs win by one over Braves

The Cubs plated two runs in the first inning, then held off a late rally by the Braves to win a close game and even their record at 1-1 with a 4-3 victory.

Dalton Burns led off for the Cubs in the first drawing a walk and after a strikeout advanced on a Mitch Young single. They both crossed the plate after Alex Bowden tripled with two outs giving them a 2-0 lead after one. The Cubs added their other two runs in the second when, with two outs, Reed Bowen was hit by a pitch and Burns walked. Both came home after Charlie Schofield walked and Young singled bringing in Bowen and Burns. The Braves also started the game fast when Andrew Burleson singled and made it home on a Nathan Branum triple, but Schofield, the Cubs' pitcher, settled down and retired two Braves' batters to end the inning.

The Braves threatened in the third adding two more runs when David Cadell and Burleson singled and Branum doubled with two outs. But Schofield struck out Stephen Till to end the inning and secure the win.

With the loss the Braves drop to 1-1 on the season.
