Montgomery- It was teacher versus pupil, round two, Saturday night as former Fort Dale junior varsity coach Steven Kilcrease, faced off against Reggie Mantooth and Fort Dale Saturday in the quarterfinals of the AISA Class AAA tournament at Faulkner. Score another one for the teacher as Mantooth and his Eagles (25-2) came away with a 48-39 win over Kilcrease's Lee-Scott Warriors in a game defined by shooting streaks. Fort Dale also defeated Lee-Scott in last year's state tournament.

The Eagles, who led the Warriors by a bucket at the half, went on a 13-2 run to start the third quarter while holding the Warriors to two points until the three minute mark.

Junior Brett Paulk led the attack in the second half, scoring 14 of his game high 19 points, including nine straight to start the third quarter.

&uot;They did a good job of defending us and they knew a lot of what we were going to do,&uot; said Eagles' head coach Reggie Mantooth. &uot;We ran a few things in the second half we didn't show them in the first half and got the ball in Brett's hands coming off some screens and he got some good looks.&uot;

As it turned out the Eagles needed everything Paulk could give them and then some as the Warriors (16-9) battled back and only trailed by three to start the fourth quarter before the Eagles went on another run with senior Justin Pierce finding the range from the three-point stripe hitting two bombs to stretch the lead to eight.

&uot;They came out and hit the shots,&uot; said Kilcrease, who coached the Eagles junior varsity to a state championship two years ago. &uot;We knew they could shoot and they did what they had to do.&uot;

Kilcrease said matching up against some of his former players was difficult, but if he had to lose to anybody, Fort Dale would be the team.

&uot;It's tough playing against this bunch, they mean a lot to me,&uot; he said. &uot;They were my first team to coach. I'm upset because we lost, but I'm proud of these guys and what they've been able to accomplish.&uot;

Paulk had six rebounds to go with his 19 points with Pierce adding nine points along with four rebounds and three assists.

Chris Selmon led the Warriors with 18 points and Kyle Carter added 11 points.

The Eagles now advance to the final four Thursday to face Bessemer. Tip off is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
