Prior to Thursday night’s Red, White and Blue Celebration in the park, a crowd assembled in front of Greenville’s City Hall to hear Mayor Dexter McLendon speak prior to the unveiling of the latest city slogan.

&uot;Rest assured, we are still the Camellia City.

But from now on, we will also be known as Greenville, Alabama n &uot;The City of Smiles&uot;,&uot; McLendon announced, as City Councilman Steve Norman and Greenville Chamber of Commerce Director Carol Lee pulled the ribbons and unveiled a sign displaying the new slogan.

The city hopes the new catchphrase will serve as a reminder to all that visit of Greenville’s genuine southern hospitality.

&uot;When you walk down our city’s streets, you see all these friendly, smiling faces everywhere and all the signs in the businesses saying &uot;Welcome to Greenville&uot; in both English and Korean. We want these folks to come to our town and know it’s a great place to live,&uot; noted McLendon.

&uot;You know that we have been working hard to get the word out about our town… we have several automotive suppliers to Hundyai looking at us as a location for their businesses.

There have been two articles recently published about Greenville in Korean newspapers… all that’s due to our aggressive marketing of our community,&uot; McLendon added.

&uot;I want to thank everybody for helping us out with this effort.

You know, there are some other cities saying, ‘Man, will y’all stop being so aggressive’…well, we are going to keep it up.

We are going to do everything we can possibly do to bring jobs, jobs, jobs to Greenville, Alabama,&uot; said the mayor.
