At a meeting held by the Kiwanis Club Tuesday, the candidates for the Butler County Sheriff's Office were put to the test as citizens of Butler County had an opportunity to ask them questions before the upcoming election.

Candidates present for the session were Kenny Harden, Lonzo Ingram, Diane Harris and Danny Bond.

Citizens were allowed to ask questions about issues facing sheriffs these days and how they would deal with these issues. Some of the issues discussed included lack of funds for sheriffs and their staffs and promotions of minorities in the sheriff's department.

Candidates were asked what attribute they each would bring to the office of sheriff and there were various answers. Harden discussed the number of arrests he has made while Ingram discussed the fact that he has been able to acquire many different grants for law enforcement agencies for which he has worked.

Harris said she wants to continue to work hard for Butler County and continue to do her best to solve cases. "Although there always will be some cases that go unsolved, I will continue to do my best to try and solve every case here in Butler County," she said.

Bond said he would do his best to work with the funds available and solve crimes in Butler County.

Other issues discussed included construction of the new county jail and job security at the sheriff's office. There were varying opinions on each subject and each candidate was allowed to give his or her point of view on each subject.

Milton Luckie served as moderator for the event, asking several questions directed to all candidates, then opening the floor for citizens' questions.
