The board of directors of Greenville Academy has selected Robert Andress Jr. to serve as the school's headmaster beginning in June 2002.

Andress, a Greenville native and a 1966 graduate of Greenville High School, has a bachelor of science degree in mathematics from Troy State University and will complete a master's degree in education leadership from Auburn University in Montgomery in the summer semester.

He comes to Greenville Academy from Hooper Academy in Hope Hull where he has served in various capacities for 18 years. He was head football coach and athletic director and taught advanced math courses. For the past four years, Andress has served as headmaster.

"We are very lucky to have Mr. Andress coming to Greenville Academy," said Phillip Graham, president of the board of directors at Greenville Academy. "He is a professional who has solid experience in education, and we are blessed to have him."

In athletics, Andress brings an outstanding record to GA. His teams have won seven state championships in football, track and basketball, and have participated in state playoffs 29 times. He has been named AISA Coach of the Year a total of 13 times.

Andress was selected as a member of the AISA Hall of Fame in the inaugural class of 2000. He currently serves as a member of the AISA Hall of Fame Committee, theAISA State Athletic Committee, the Coaches Association and the State Council.

"Greenville Academy has a long tradition and I was very impressed by the dedication of the students, staff and faculty. Coach Walker has done a excellent job there and I want to build on what he's started," said Andress.

He is married to the former Sharon Stevens, also a Greenville native, who is head of the history department at St. James School in Montgomery. They have one son, David, who will graduate in May from the Paul Herbert School of Law at Louisiana State University.
