The Greenville Tigers hosted two baseball teams on Tuesday, and following a close loss to Hillcrest-Evergreen, they fell hard against Luverne.

Greenville 6, Hillcrest-Evergreen 7

In the first game, Jonathon Kidd was the starting pitcher, staying on the mound for four innings, allowing two hits, striking out six batters and allowing five runs. He also earned one run for the Tigers.

Brandon Burnett pitched that last three innings, allowing two runs and one hit, striking out two batters.

Daniel Hartley led the Tigers at bat, with one double and one single, followed by Ashley Lakes with a single.

Hillcrest scored seven runs on three hits, as the result of three errors.

Greenville will play in the first round of the playoffs on Apr. 24, in Mobile, against the area 3 champions.

Greenville 1, Luverne 6

Freshman Daniel Hartley pitched the entire seven innings in game two, against the Luverne Tigers. Hartley struck out six batters, allowed two walks, two earned runs and 10 hits.

Playing a young lineup, Greenville started four freshmen, three sophomores and two seniors.

William Phillips, Brett Thomas and Kelcius Savage had the only hits for the Greenville Tigers. Trey Huff had the only RBI.

Greenville's combined ERA for the year is 2.15. Pitching and defense has been well for the Tigers, but poor hitting contributed to an overall 10-13 record. An example of this was their match in this game against Luverne, when they notched only three hits.
