Bobby Wasden, a 1956 graduate of Greenville High School, was inducted into the Alabama Independent School Association (AISA) Hall of Fame on March 11.

Wasden was an all-state and all-American running back in high school and signed a football scholarship to Auburn University. He was a three-year football letterman at Auburn as an offensive and defensive end and played on the 1957 national championship team. He also played in the 1959 Blue-Grey Classic and was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers the same year.

Wasden received his bachelor of science degree in physical education and social studies from Auburn and his master's in school administration from the University of Montevallo.

He began his coaching and teaching career at Georgiana High School in 1962 where he coached several outstanding football teams.

The 1971 Georgiana High team went undefeated and made it to the final four in the state playoffs. In 1973, Wasden began his coaching career at Meadowview Christian School in Selma and won five state championships in nine years.

He coached and was headmaster for 13 years in the AISA as he spent ten years at Meadowview and three years at Demopolis Academy. Wasden ended his coaching career at Prattville High School in 1991 after taking the Prattville football team to the state playoffs every year he coached.

He served as principal of Georgiana High School from 1992-1997 and retired in the spring of 1997. He and his wife of 38 years, Wanda Herren Wasden, have three children, Tommy, Shayne and Wendy. Wanda is now the librarian at Georgiana High School and their son Tommy is currently the president of Mobile Christian School. Shayne Wasden is the head coach and athletic director at Eufaula High School and Wendy will receive her degree from the UAB School of Medicine in May.

Wasden said he gives credit to his family, those involved in his career and to God for the accomplishments he has made.

"I give credit for everything I have ever accomplished to my mom and dad; my wife, Wanda; my three children; the young men who have played for me as a coach; all the people who have coached and taught with me; the boards of the schools I have worked for; and to God, who have me the abilities that I have," Wasden said.
