The Butler County Chamber of Commerce, along with the Alabama Historical Commission, has created an activity book for area children. It features area landmarks and buildings designed to teach children about the city in which they live.

The book was presented to W.O. Parmer Elementary school Monday during a special assembly that featured speakers Mayor Dexter McLendon and Sen. Wendell Mitchell.

"Celebrating Greenville: Our Hometown" features information about Greenville, pictures of area landmarks, buildings, businesses and churches. Beside each picture is information about the place featured in the picture. The book also contains activities that teach children skills such as math, spelling, vocabulary and identification of shapes.

The book is designed in a way that children have fun and learn important concepts at the same time.

Senator Wendell Mitchell and the Alabama Historical Society both provided grants to help fund the production of the book. Individuals helping design and produce the book include: June Bell, Ann Blackmon, Tom Braxton, Wilodean Brown, Peytie Carmichael, Juanita Carter, Jean Cook, Annie Crenshaw, Mary Croley, P.S. Davis, Roberta Gamble, Mary Ann Hamilton, Nancy Idland, Laura Kirkham, Carmen Lancaster, T.K. Lee, Annabel Markle, Lucy McGowin, Janis Odom, Shirley Roberson, Marianne Russell, James Schofield, April Sherling and Glenda Stone.
