As the first season under new Athletic Director Alvin Briggs reaches its midway point the Greenville Tigers

are coming home, with victory on their minds against Southside-Selma.

Excitement abounded all week on Tiger Drive and around Greenville as students, teachers and parents prepared for the annual homecoming celebration.

For over a week, the students built floats, using award-class imagination to come up with unique themes for them.

A parade began at 6 p.m. in the parking lot of the courthouse, and complete with a polished and well-tuned "Tiger Pride Marching Band," it proceeded down Commerce Street into town, before turning up on Ft. Dale Road, and eventually breaking up at Tiger Stadium.

Children ran for the confectionery delights being thrown from floats and vehicles, but the two main items of the parade were the Homecoming Queen and her court

atop a float in evening gowns, and the Greenville High School Tigers Football Team, which were being pulled on two trailers, the first of which was driven by Lionel Davison and head Coach Alvin Briggs.

Following the parade, at 8 p.m. there was a bonfire celebration at Interstate Plaza, compliments of Wal-mart, where cheerleaders and their support team (parents) dispensed cold drinks and popcorn to nearly 1,000 sports fans.

Then on Friday afternoon, an assembly was held at the Greenville High School auditorium, where members of each of the four grade levels performed their own original skits for the entire student body.

Following the finale of a "Mummenshontz-styled" stage dance by the senior class, the students were all moved to the gymnasium, where a pep-rally ensued.

Pre-game festivities were held prior to the Friday night game at Tiger Stadium, and a special performance was given by the GHS Tiger Pride Marching Band and Flag Squads, led by Drum Major Amanda VanCor, senior class of 2002.
