Fort Dale Eagles lose 14-7 to Monroe

Fort Dale hosted Monroe Academy but came away down seven points in a hard-fought game Friday night.

Monroe struck first againsy the Eagles as, with 3:17 left in the first quarter, K. J. Lazenby capped off a 45-yard drive. The three play drive came after a fumbled snap on a FDA punt gave Monroe the ball on the GA 45.

The two teams proved they were equally matched and no one could gain significant advantage until the firth quarter. Monroe intercepted QB Josh Till deep in GA territory and made a 23-yard run for the second Monroe TD.

Fort Dale got on the board with only 1:31 left in the game. Joey Hambrick capped the scoring drive with an 18-yard run for six points. Clint Philpot's extra point kick was good and the game ended 14-7.

Joey Hambric had 165 yards on the ground for the Eagles in 18 carries. Josh Till added 33 yards in eight carries and completed four of 11 passes for 66 yards.

Fort Dale's offense racked up almost twice the yardage of Monroe, having 300 yards to their 161. The Eagles rushed for 234 yards against Monroe's 125 and passed for 66 against their 35 yards. Fort Dale gave the ball up six times Friday night.

Next week the Eagles will play Marion Military Academy in Marion.
