Ten Greenville girls recently traveled to Mobile, Ala. to represent the Camellia City in what has become known as the state’s version of the Olympics, and lasted two games before being eliminated from play.

&uot;I am very proud of our team,&uot; said Jerome Harris of the Greenville Wildcats. &uot;The girls faced stiff competition from teams that were a lot bigger than themselves, and when they were done, they knew the Wildcats had been there.&uot;

The Wildcats first faced the Lady Badgers of Mobile, and lost after four full periods of fight, 43-13.

The Lady Badgers later went on to take second place and the silver medal for the 13-and-under girls’ bracket.

In game two on Saturday, the Wildcats played in the afternoon against Rage, a team of more experienced girls out of Birmingham, Ala.

As part of Pool B, Greenville was the only team consisting strictly of city-league players.

&uot;Many of the competition, especially those from northern Alabama have girls from bigger cities, and it is almost like they can draw from the cream of the crop — our girls were very good against their competition, and I am very proud of them,&uot; Harris said.

The girls returned to Greenville, knowing they were the Camellia City’s &uot;Olympic Heros,&uot; and the only athletes in competetion from Butler County at the annual event.
