What a difference a year made for the Greenville Tigers-from primarily green at the beginning of the year, to seasoned and strong-under the guidance of Terry Moore.

The Greenville High School Tigers hosted a spring scrimmage game against the Andalusia High Bulldogs.

The Tigers also dominated the field, and the scoreboard for the majority of the first half of the game.

The game even drew the attention of Greenville's area opposition-the Wilcox Wildcats arrived, in their blue team jerseys, to scout the Tigers in this, the first report card of a year with Coach Moore and his able staff.

Gone are the days where those freshmen and sophomores were slow on their feet, slow to hit, and slow to catch.

And here in their place-a team that has been dedicated to teamwork and improvement, all the way through the winter-working out, competing in powerlifting tourneys, and it definitely showed on the field.

The board was empty until, with two minutes left in the first quarter, Jacoby Thagard (11), a freshman quarterback this year, threw a 38 yard pass to J.C. Anderson (19), also a freshman for a touchdown.

Next, Antonio Mack (35),

another freshman, carried the conversion in, to make the score 8-0.

Later in the same quarter, Thagard pitched the ball to Andrew "Bamm-Bamm" Thomas (32), another freshman, who carried the ball 35 yards for a first down.

The Bulldogs came back on a long drive, and were able to score a TD, but not the PAT, and the score was 8-6, Greenville.

After a quarterback change, Carlos Carter (1), a junior, was at the helm of the Tigers' ship when he made an option play to run 65 yards for a touchdown, making the score 14-6, Tigers.

Then, with 2:15 left in the third, Andalusia was able to make a pitch play good for a 30-yard run, getting the first down.

With 17 seconds left in the third, the Bulldogs crossed the line for another touchdown, although they were not good with the PAT, and so the score after three was 14-12, Greenville.

The Tigers would prevent Andalusia, much to the dismay of Andalusia's coaching staff, and themselves were able to score one more TD to make the score at the end of the game Greenville 20, Andalusia 12.

"These kids have come on strong," said Greenville Athletic Director Terry Moore. "They have really worked hard to improve, and it shows on the field, and in their hearts-they have played with their hearts."

Moore said the Tigers have made tremendous progress.

"They have hung in there, sticking together, and working really hard-I love them all, and I will miss them-they are the very best."

Moore, who has spent his career training some of the south's best football players, was recently informed by the Butler County School Board Superintendent, Mike Reed, that he would follow be presenting GHS Principal John Black's recommendation to the Board that Coach Moore, and one of his assistants, James Pair, not have their contracts renewed for the 2001-2002 year.

The team, the parents, and the community will sorely miss Coach Moore, too.
