Special Olympics here Thursday

The field is being marked, the restrooms, scrubbed, the tents and tables set up.

Come Thursday morning, May 10, Tiger Stadium in Greenville will become Olympic' Stadium for the day as the Tri-County/Tri-Center Special Olympics kicks at 9:30 a.m. with a parade around the field, complete with colorful banners and an authentic-looking torch.'

"We are getting really, really excited about this event.

We will have 130 consumers from the different centers participating," says Sheila Martin, Butler Activity and Training Center Director.

The local center is hosting the Olympics, which will feature several events including Frisbee throw, softball throw and wheelchair race.

The Olympics are scheduled to run from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and the weather forecast looks promising.

"It looks like we will have a beautiful day and we hope everyone will come out to cheer our participants on," says Martin.
