For Meredith Mosley, being named the female 2001 Achiever Award winner was an electrifying moment that left her "speechless".

The bubbly Fort Dale Academy senior quickly overcame her momentary loss of words and thanked her parents, coaches, pastor, headmaster and her Lord for the abiding support and encouragement she has received during this past year.

The dark-eyed brunette with the infectious grin was on the receiving end of a seemingly endless stream of congratulatory words, smiles and hugs following Thursday night's banquet.

"Everyone of the 31 nominees were outstanding . . .I do feel so overwhelmed to be chosen," said Mosley, who is the current Butler County Junior Miss and the number-one ranked student in FDA's senior class.

Mosley, the daughter of Tommy and Elizabeth Moseley of Stoneroad Drive, Greenville, plans to attend Auburn University in the fall.

A lifetime animal lover, Mosley wants to pursue a degree in pre-veterinary medicine.

She also has high hopes of continuing with another love: tennis.

"I have an interview with the Auburn tennis coach coming up . . . let's keep our fingers crossed," laughs Mosley.

Luck-and a lot of hard work and natural ability would appear to be on her side. Mosley played on four AISA State Championship Squads in tennis, placing first in District in 1st seed singles and doubles during her years at FDA.

She's also known as a tremendous basketball player.

At FDA, Mosley was a member of the 1999 AISA State Championship Basketball Squad, the 2001 AISA All-Star Team and numerous All-Tournament Teams.

George Wacha, sportswriter for the Greenville Advocate, covered many of the top athlete's hoop games this year and he stated, "If every player on a team played with as much energy, heart and team spirit as Meredith does-that team would be unstoppable."

Mosley, who also lettered in volleyball and cheerleading at FDA, has high praise for her coaches and instructors. " Coach [Johnny Mack] Brown and Coach [Reggie] Mantooth have taught me about life as well as sports . . .I have the deepest respect for them as well as all my teachers."

Moseley has been involved on all levels in her school, serving as president of the SGA, vice-president of the National Honor Society, secretary of the Beta Club and member of the Fellowship of Active Christian Teachers and Students and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

She was also a Girls' State Representative and was named to the Who's Who Among American High School Students.

Mosley is also a talented vocalist blessed with a sweet, soaring soprano fine-tuned through the tutelage of acclaimed voice teacher Millie McDonald. She enjoys sharing her talents and her testimony in her own and other churches across the area.

This Chamber of Commerce Camellia Girl positively bloomed as she recalled the blessings of this past school year.

"It's had its high and low points . . . but overall it's been just a wonderful year.

I've learned so much and God has blessed my family in ways I can't describe.

"I really use one verse from the Bible in particular as my guide-Phillippians 4:13, where it says I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me'.

Truly, I couldn't have accomplished any of this without Him," Mosley said.
